oh and did they have a treadmill?
-
• #2328
No, no treadmill, though I was welcome to run around the shop a bit. Obviously this is entirely inadequate for getting a proper feeling for a pair of shoes but I already had a good idea of what I wanted and have been using other inov-8s for a while so not too fussed. Plus I reckon you don't really get a proper feeling for the shoes until you've put 50-100km in in them by which point no shop is going to let you return them anyway!
Will let you know how the camelbak goes, I bought it for the TP100 where I'm hoping my support team (i.e. my mum) can keep me well supplied so I don't need to carry much. Compulsory kit is just water bottle, phone, space blanket, headtorch and a spare light source so not much at all!

Tp 100?

Thames Path
more likely than Trans Penine
There's an ultra race up the spine of the pennine starts this weekend, 268ish miles

theres a guy we know chatted to last weekend at Quantocks,
hes done the Bob Graham round, so qualifies for this Mont Blanc race-
basically its around the whole mountain, 4 marathons back to back in 24 hours:/
im gonna do the hampshire x-country race tommorrow in Bomo, 9kish
should be fun, wont have to stop for controls for once. -

Went out for a run this morning, only managed a couple of miles and my legs are aching now. Not sure I'm built for this sort of thing...

Tp 100?
In my case it's not the Trans Pennine, it's the Thames Path 100 ( http://www.centurionrunning.com/thames-path-100-2012/tp100-2012 ), there are at least a couple of posters in this thread who are thinking of doing it too. Hoping to get into the Pilgrims ultra too (it's currently full) which would give me most of the points needed for the Mont Blanc race in 2013 :)
p.s. the shoes feel excellent, the camelbak less so but I'll give myself some time to get used to it before passing final judgement.

Well, I've never actually run an ultra... yet.

guy in my club is runner #1 in the spine race, he's trying to qualify for ultra trail mont blanc, as is another club mate. both frustratingly close but missed out last time... points thing seems confusing, and an injury at the wring time can screw up lots of previous effort it seems

#oldblokejokeI'm actually enjoying a cup of tea in my Che mug as we speak...

innov8 are super comfy and adapt to wide feet, but they tend not to last in my experience

I'm doing it, but had bad news today - my mate, who has an annoying habit of entering races I'm in, and then winning the fuckers, has schmoozed the organisers with his palmares. Move yourself one place down the finisher's list.
-
• #2342
I've a friend of a friend who is also in it for the win, possibly the same guy but from what I hear there are some very swift people entered. I'm never going to win whatever so it's all a slightly moot point anyway - it'll just be me against myself.
Mixed feelings about todays 50k. Furthest I've ever run but only just squeezed in ahead of anticipated race pace and I certainly couldn't have kept it up for another 110km!

my gf whos going for a 2.48 london marathon this year says the reason she wont get into ultras or ironmans is cos she dosent want to do junk milage...its a different outlook entirely.
on another little short note about today
did Hants X-country champs in kings park bournemouth 9k in 37 and a half mins.the pace was searingly fast for me these boys rip it without orienteering to do .went off good and did first 2 laps in 7 min something, knew id gone off too fast so third and fourth were like 8 / 9
still not a bad time.

Not sure I understand her thinking - ultrarunners don't want to do junk miles any more than any other runners do. I suppose doing ultra mileage wouldn't be right for her at the moment when she's trying to concentrate on a bloody fast mara, but it doesn't necessarily follow that ultra training has to involve junk mileage - we don't want to waste our time any more than any other runner.

Running training again begins Tuesday (first proper free day in a while- and hopefully some non-fucked shoes will arrive by then).
Super excited. -
• #2347
Does this look ok as a training schedule?
M 50 mile afterworker ride
T rest
W 8 mile run to work
T 50 mile afterworker ride
F rest
S 8 mile run
S restThen repeat but upping the Saturday run by two miles each week till I hit 24 and running in to work Tuesdays and Fridays from two weeks' time (my commute on public transport should be less tedious by then as I'll have moved).

• #2348
Yes, you will definitely win.
-
• #2349
Excellent.

Looks fine, I prob substitute the weekday run for either interval, tempo or hill work in order to make it a bit more time efficient and improve what is a comfortable running pace for you, 2 50 mile rides will cover off the aerobic base that a standard 8 mile run at a non descript pace would udually be included for.
Out of interest why are you going as far as 24 in your training?
would be interested to hear your thoughts on the camlebak thing, i bought a cheap version for my last marathon but the bottle kept falling out so havent used it since.
