I use Innov-8 Mud Claws for when I'm up in the mountains, you can seriously tear shit up in them. Fuck what colour they are, they're only going to get covered in mud...

ewan, that's heavy training - why are you doing 110km weeks at this time of year?
In other news, and if we're willy-waving, the most I've done in a day is 161km.

Training for TP100 at the beginning of March so I'm not that far out from hitting my max (scheduled) mileage of 130km/week. I was supposed to do 110k last week but only got to 90 (missed the wednesday 20km) and next couple of weeks I'm travelling so not going to get much done then either.
I'm not on my computer right now but I'll post my planned vs actual training graph... it definitely is heavy miles but at the same time I don't think I'm over doing things. It's a fine balance between preparing for the 100 and not over-training.

Here you go. I have very little idea whether or not this looks like a sensible schedule but it's what I'm doing. The main focus is to build the miles slowly, but at the same time I'm a bit nervous that by race-day my longest ever run will have been 48km (I have a couple of 48km/32km weekends) - hence why I'm thinking of reshuffling the last 6 weeks of the schedule to fit the Pilgrims challenge Feb (2x c.50km days). TP100 will be my first ultra (excl. pilgrims) so I feel like I'm treading a fine line between overtraining and being sufficiently trained. I'm just bumbling through really.
(today's run will be very light (I think i'll join the GF on her run) because I have a bit of soreness in my ankle after the weekend).

Is there a Rapha type manufacturer for runners? Is there an equivalent of Always Riding? I'm not finding any on google. I'm trawling/dredging for a Christmas present.

There is a company in this month's GQ in their top 100 list that is quite similar. I can't remember the name of the comany though. It begins with 'A' - Sorry. I had a look at their webiste and the long sleeve top was the pick that looked nicest to me. If no one posts the name of the company, I'll do it when I get home later.

I desperately need to buy myself a head torch for running. The lovely Alpkithttp://www.alpkit.com/shop/cart.php?target=product&product_id=16345&category_id=253 one is out of stock at the moment and due any time soon. I'll try to hold out and hope it comes in stock soon. My route goes through a lot of areas with no light though.

On the subject of christmas presents, does anyone have any experience with the Garmin 110?
My inner data geek feels that the 305 is inherently a better deal (better watch, cheaper price), but it's a present for the GF and I think that a) all the data and options to customise settings are likely to go unused and b) the huge size mean that she wouldn't use it.
I think my only reservation with the 110 is that it doesn't show live pace, instead it only shows lap average pace. Does anyone have any experience with this, is it ok or is it annoying?
Finally if anyone wants to sell theirs or knows of a cheap place on the interwebs (discount code?) I'd be very much obliged!

I've used live pace a lot on my 305 during my runs.

Thanks. If you're able to post the name it'll save me having to browse through GQ at [strike]the library[/strike] Kwik-E-Mart. Either way, it's a lead and for that i'm grateful.

Hmm, I'm doing that race too, and haven't started training yet. It'll be interesting seeing how the two different approaches work.

Weird, I was looking at this today while I was supposed to be working, and wondering how many subtle hints I need to start dropping about really needing a new long sleeved running top...
I thought exactly the same thing though. Rapha for running...

i was looking at them yesterday, it will catch on, but why?!?!
i'd much rather a whole load of skins, gore or 2xu stuff rather than a £150 pair of tights!

Yes, very. I'm always interested in this kind of stuff. But IIRC didn't you mention a few pages back that you have a fair bit of ultra experience (Al Andalus?)? My training is motivated in large part by the worry that I have zero experience and although I have some (LD-Tri) base fitness, I lack running miles. I've still never run more than a marathon in one go.
As it stands after 3.5months of dedicated run training I'm actually pretty confident in my fitness levels, but as a friend of mine put it:
Running 100 miles.. fitness is only about 2% of it. Nutrition is about 10%. The great unknown is about 88% of it. Of that, pacing is important. Get it wrong and you'll fail.
Its the 98% that I'm now anxious about :)
Ankle a bit sore this morning so I'll take the next couple of days off and then I hop on a series of planes for the next 2 weeks so not much opportunity to train.

Also quick question. I had my 5k run last night and this morning the arch of my left foot is really hurting, is this anything to be worried about?
Just to let you know I've got sports insoles in my right shoe to help with my IT band but I wouldn't have thought that would affect the left foot would it?
-
• #2099
^ that's beyond my experience I'm afraid, fatigued tendons in you're foot maybe?
in other news my run in this morning felt incredibly hard, it wasn't helped by being over taken by a girl with the strangest gait I've seen in a while on Chelsea bridge. Still 9.00min miles for 6 miles before breakfast isn't too shabby.

I'm guessing it could. I'm constantly running off injuries, and if one foot/leg is stiffer than the other, or better supported by bandages etc. The other one is forced to change the way it works, and/or do more work.
Also.
Arch pain is often experianced when you get new shoes. I'm not sure, but it might be down to the stiffer sole requiring more force to bend.
66 ish miles is a lot in a week.
I think my best ever week was 50 miles, on about 25-30 at the moment, 8.5 miles has reached gentle run status, trying to decide whether to break my sub 10 mile before Xmas rule...
