Round Norfolk Relay went well. I think my team won overall and I had a decent run, managing sub 6 minute miling for 11 off road miles from Wells to Cley.
As I came in to finish my leg there was a guy down who had collapsed, which wasn't ideal.
I've been building up to Thursday night and yesterday for a while so I need to find a new autumn target. I'm thinking of a 10 mile race somewhere. Any suggestions welcomed!

Did my first 10k race today. A lot to learn for future events but really enjoyed it

Did my first parkrun at the weekend. I was pretty tired turning up and felt pretty anxious - it was insanely busy as another local parkrun wasn't on. I started off back in the starting grid and found it pretty stressful at first winding between people, feeling like I was going to stamp on ankles. Soon got used to it though and found it really enjoyable being able to look forward and see if I could catch someone. People who I thought I could hang on to became catch-able and I started feeling comfortable enough to run on. A strong motivational moment came when I saw a mate who is a really strong runner (maybe not by this threads standards but definitely by mine) coming past me on part of the course. Also great encouragement by a guy I passed on the finishing straight. I really loved the atmosphere and it properly felt like starting the day right. Biggest bonus of all was beating my previous best 5k by 2 minutes! Came in at 21:39, which I'm still bowled over by. Had hoped to run 5k in under 23 minutes this year so was absolutely gobsmacked.
My girlfriend keeps going from strength to strength too - another PB for her on the same morning!
Well done @DenGlanzig too, been enjoying following your running progression.

Looking at the Adidas solar drive as a slow, recovery shoe - main use will be running home from work when tired. I mainly use the Boston boosts which I love, so something softer than that. Had some Hoka Clifton’s which kind of did the job, but I didn’t get on with the very stiff sole.
Any opinions on the solar drive?

Meanwhile my son edged closer to his goal of a sub 20min 5k before his 12th birtday. He's got 22 seconds and 1 month to go…
I can't imagine I would ever have even run that far at that age.
3,000m was about as far as we got!
Colour me impressed.

I sacked off a 10k event yesterday. Instead, we had cake at the garden centre.
I have a hilly half at the Eden Project mid-October, which looks more andore like I'll be just trying to get round without causing any permanent damage.
Another month with no running goes by...

Another month with no running goes by...
Last proper run was May 15th for me. Apathy, summer holidays and a dodgy foot to blame, but mostly apathy.
Called today Day 1 of the new regime as daughter is back in proper school routine (so I get my Mondays back to myself) and the mad panic at work has died down a bit. 98.45kg this morning, want to be under 80kg for London Marathon in April 2019. Hmm.
Not quite up for running yet (although still playing ~2h of 5-a-side a week) and wanted to test out the foot so did a HM walk this afternoon (after a 3.2km swim). Feel utterly broken but happy, and not eating everything in sight yet. Will start gentle running again when weight under 95kg and be ready (i.e. happy doing 10k) by the time the usual 20 week Marathon programme starts around late December.

Thanks man, what's your local Park Run? I've been going to South Manchester even though it's not local but I know the park better

I've just been trying to spend some time running for the past few weeks, not overdo it but to get a bit of conditioning.
I'd like to build up to a marathon mid-2019 (if we can leave the country then), and shorter term to bring my 5k time as close to my record (~20min) as possible over the next few months.
What would the running hive-mind recommend that I do in terms of both distance and type of running?

PhilPub's advice here is a good place to start: https://www.lfgss.com/comments/12630685/ I'd guess.

Stretford. It was cool to start/finish on the running track. I've never been into competitive running or athletics but there was a definite buzz to pushing to the end on a running track!

Tonight I went out for my fourth run since taking it back up after a gap of years. It felt great and I managed 12.5k without any trouble - so I thought. When I got back I realised my nipples were bleeding. I was wearing a synthetic, fairly tight, adidas 'climalite' top. I've never had this before, so I think it must be to blame. Hopefully changing it for something else will avoid this happening again, and I won't have to start putting tape on them, or whatever.

I micropore tape up for anything HM or over, or anything 10km or over if wet.

Have we done "Drinks Guy" in here yet?

I’d aim to change where you’re doing 10km to 20km to get the miles in.
Is there a reason for so many 5km sessions? Making two of those sessions race pace intervals. I don’t what your schedule is but I imagine these are before or after work?

School[1] running club this morning for Y5/Y6. 4km with a few stops to regroup.
Of course they all set off at <5min/km pace but it thankfully settled down to something sensible.
(My daughter preferred to stay and play football at before school club than come running. Fair enough.)
- Technically not organised by the school but just by some of the parents.

This is the number one WORST thing about running. If you have a hairy chest then taping doesn't work so well but skin tight baselayers or running tops will stop this from happening. You want to stop the movement of top against skin.
