  • I would but i live in durham. Would you bang it in the post?

  • I would but i live in durham. Would you bang it in the post?

Yes I would. PM me your address and it's yours.

  • Awesome, let us know what you think of it.

  • New PB post! 16.06 for the 5000 at the Kent a.c. club champs tonight. A little bit different to the impressive ultras that everyone has been running. But, my first genuine pb for a few years so I'm pretty pleased.

  • Great stuff! You've been running well, thoroughly deserved.

I was in the same race but a little further back, on the bright side it was a season's best, i.e. just a bit less shit than my only other track 5,000 this year, 16:44. Another impressive pb was MsPub also in front of me, a couple of seconds shaved off for 16:31.

Still 6 weeks before the target marathon. I'm telling myself I can still get a lot fitter in that time but it would be nice to run a satisfying race again some time soon.

  • Cheers!

Six weeks is a lot of time. you'll be grand. You've done it before.

  • Different but still impressive, chapeau! Aiming for a 15:XX next?

  • Cracking times @juanito & @PhilPub & MsPub!

  • Fantastic runs all round ^^^

I did my first timed/chipped 10k last week in Stratford. In the back of my mind I was hoping to sneak under 38min. I managed a 37:10.

2nd V45 and 12th overall. Happy. Pretty even splits for first and second half. I'm doing another at the end of the month, so maybe I can get the negative split and go under 37. Dunno. I'm at week 5 of the 12 week Alfredson protocol for achilles tendinitis/osis/opathy. Pain still fluctuates from day to day, but if nothing else my calves are getting stronger.

Meanwhile my son edged closer to his goal of a sub 20min 5k before his 12th birtday. He's got 22 seconds and 1 month to go…

  • That's pretty good going from both of you.

  • Top work.

Also, I'm no expert on juniors but a sub 20 at 12 years old sounds pretty special to me.

  • Thanks. I don't think it puts him anywhere near genetic-outlier category, but I know he'll be leaving me in the dust soon if he continues. I'm happy that he's happy running. That's a decent baseline.

  • That's the plan, but unfortunately the track season has ended just as I was getting into shape.

Off to Norfolk this evening for leg five of the Round Norfolk Relay tomorrow. As long as there is no wind whipping off the North Sea it should be an enjoyable run.

Have a good parkrun / racing /training weekend!

  • ^ enjoy Norfolk. Bonus unplanned Parkrun today for me.

One of our work sites is in a park which hosts a parkrun. I'd agreed to work 9-11am today to cover absence, nice 3 mile run commute. Arrived 8.40 and absent guy was present so I wasn't needed.

Decided as I was there i'd run Parkrun and see how it went, although local it's one I've never run as i've 3 others closer to home.

1km in, the strongest (can now see he has parkrun pb of 15.xx) in our group of 5 called a split to another, clear he was pacing him so I checked target (17) and decided to stick with them, 2 quickly dropped leaving the three of us. Pacee faded at 3km so we slowed to try chivvy him along. Given it was a pacing effort we didn't race for the line and I was content to drop in 3rd.

17.19 in tatty & heavy speedcross 4's after hitting 100miles (edit: total not per week!) across 2 weeks ultra build was not a bad outcome at all & a fun change of plan.

  • 17:33 at parkrun this morning which means…80.82% age grading. Goal #2 achieved. And I had a 50p-off coupon for Co-Op Cava so I’m about to start on the low-budget celebrations. What a beautiful morning for running. Not many of these left…

  • Tres quick, chapeau. I'm hoping for a 22 before the end of October.

  • You’ll do it. I felt like a total paedo this morning. Heavy breathing middle-aged man off the front chasing three teenage boys, slowly overcoming the weakest.

  • Good work, great way to celebrate. Re: 12 yr old running times, no expert here but that sounds pretty nippy. Not sure most 12 yr olds have the endurance to run 5k!

A useful tempo run this morning, laps of the flat bit of Greenwich Park. Total 11.7 miles, about 7.5 of which was ~6m/m, and managed to pick it up for 5:41/m for the final 1.2 mile lap. Nice to finish inside target MP even if it felt harder, like it always does. 19 miles hilly off-road over North Downs Way planned for tomorrow. Box Hill to Oxted. Really looking forward to it, a good time-on-feet session.

The JM10 record for my local parkrun is 19:18. JM11-14 is 17:24. JM15-17 is 16:17.

One kid has been running the local one for years (174 parkruns!), he clocked 19:55 the other week and he's still in the JM10 category. According to the results pages his PBs per year are:-

    2018: 19:55
    2017: 20:33
    2016: 21:29
    2015: 22:34
    2014: 26:54
    2013: 30:02

(If he's 10 now then that 2013 time was probably when he was just 5 years old. Bonkers.)

  • Be they 8 or 80, it’s always humbling when you see these gifted people in full flight.

    Everyone’s a winner though, etc.

  • It's amazing how parkrun photographers always manage to capture the gifted people in picture perfect running form. Whilst I look like a sack of sweating shit shuffling along with legs/arms splayed out at random angles.

  • I'm so god-damn fast that I'm impossible to photograph, based on every Parkrun I've ever done.

  • Tynan decided to eschew the senior parkrun in favour of the 2k junior parkrun this weekend. Ran a blinder for a new PB of 7:33. We hung around for a bit watching the carnage in the funnel as hordes of littler kids who’d ambled over the line then sprinted and jostled for position in the 10 yards between the timekeeper and the finishing token volunteer.

  • Well, Kipchoge can run a bit. Can't believe that wasn't on British tv anywhere.
