i've just bought a pair of these. my first step away from Mizuno Hitogamis. I wouldn't go much beyond 10k in them though.

who is running on Sunday, and what time do you think you'll get to Poplar high street?
I'll ride down in full kit to work on my base tan lines

That's like 19.5, 20 miles? If I can be there at midday I think I'll be having a good day.

20 miles? 11.54am according to my pace band. Navy vest, black shorts, blue shoes, possibly white hat! #1382

I think so. everyone looked very serious last year.

I'll wear my lufguss jersey and have a black principia (not that I imagine you'll be concentrating on spectator bikes!)
good luck!

What is the running equivalent of ‘do a skid’?
Good luck people.

• #17984
I have done a skid whilst running. Not with my feet

I've decided against the haircut, in case of some kind of Samson effect. Will be dressed identically to the last time!

Club mate has decided something similar after much internet research. I think the theory is that beardiness can act as a good sun screen, whereas a freshly shaven face will subject previously unexposed flesh to the deadly rays. I met him at Expo yesterday and he'd just clipped down from a WG Grace to a Bonnie Prince Billy.

Just the one gel?
Off to expo after work to pick up my slightly longer number, 32276.

Get you with your two timing chips!

Plan is to down one gel between final warm-up and start, then carry just the one caffeine-injected gel planned for consumption at 21 miles, with sips of Lucozade Sport and water in between. I've got round my last 2 (pb) marathon races on a single gel and water, but I reckon a few extra electrolytes won't go amiss on Sunday.
@Arducius - I know! Two numbers makes sense for Champs start runners but not sure why we need two chips.

@PhilPub @juanito I've got a pair of Hyperions. Tried them for the HM, and it felt like a few km too far. Great for the short stuff though.
Adidas shoes have never felt quite as appropriate for my foot shape as Brooks. Even so, in the quest for straighter shoes, I've ended up switching from the Launch to the Ravenna, and from the Hyperion to the Asteria. I'm still a neutral runner, but don't feel any invasive stability from those models. Going to try the Asteria for the marathon.
I miss the slightly better wet weather grip of Adidas outsoles, but that's all.
Good luck to everyone running on Sunday.

Interesting. I've never used Lucozade Sport so gave got a caffeine gel for just before start then three High5 gels for 45ish minute intervals. First time I've actually planned in advance, last year I just threw down a handful of jelly beans a few times.

Cheeky half up over the moors yesterday. Definitely slowed in the heat. HR data says it was a better performance (higher average hr) but legs were struggling.
Feels like 13-15 miles is becoming a more comfortable distanceAlso enjoying the Stravistix plugin, even if most of it is over my head - any tips for using it?
The fitness/fatigue thing is super useful though. -

Also, what are peoples experiences with weight gain with mileage increase? I'm leaning out, but I've put on a kg or two. This displeases me. Will my weight dip back down once I've stopped increasing mileage?

Muscle is heavier than 'potential muscle'?

I dropped to less than 10 stone in 2014. I definitely didn't look that healthy. I think I was running up to 75 miles a week.
Now I'm a bit older, have more kids and less time, I think I'd be lucky to see the lower end of ten stone again
Disclaimer: borderline problem drinker
Edit: also ran a 17:32 5k pb whilst ill looking

a caffeine gel for just before start then three High5 gels for 45ish minute intervals.
This has always been my marathon plan and seems to work for me. Good luck.

I’ve just finished an overnight two-way VLM. Rather sedate 9hrs, with much faffing in shops and chatting to drunks. No attempted muggings or gang fights, which have blighted previous two-ways. Shame really, shows S Ldn is losing its edge. Lovely evening, vest weather all the way. Wouldn’t much fancy it in the heat of the day.
It’s still a grotty course , round some of the worst bits of London. No idea why anyone would want to do it as an A-race.
I didn't, no, but they're a bit more racy aren't they? And I've heard they're a bit firm. I wear Boston Boost for long races and fast training but I was after a more cushioned shoe for everyday mileage. Glide Boost were perfect for that but the new Supernova are waaay more cushioned to the point of squishy and not very stable. The Ghost seem to feel similar to Glide and are just really comfy to slip on.
