I'm going to order loads of nike products in about 15 minutes.

I'm ready to go down the Nike Factory store and bankrupt myself right now.

Mission accomplished.

2:00:24 (edit :25) - one of the greatest runners in history, ideal conditions, pacers dropping in and out, pace car, specificially chosen course and couldn't break 2. The target stands!
What a run though. That was quality.

It'll go next year, mentally that's got to be a huge boost for anyone who thinks they can get near it.
Fair play to Nike, Kipchoge, Tadese, Desisa, everyone was mocking this when it was announced, big PR risk if they'd have all blown up at 35K or something.
-
• #15507
Do you think anyone but Kipchoge genuinely believes that they can?
-
• #15508
Oh yeah. I don't believe anyone but Kipchoge can, but there'll be people who do.

1s per mile quicker and it's in the bag!

if only he hadn't stopped to say hi to his family along the way. has been the downfall of many a marathon runner hunting a pb.

Top work! 1:59:84!

I've been wondering if his chip time might have been quicker than the gun time? These popular high profile marathons often see a delay for runners getting over the official start line...

Would anyone like a copy of 'British Marathon Running Legends of the 1980s' by Gabrielle Collison? I'll post it out.
If you enjoy reading interviews about crazy training schedules and carb depletion this is the book for you.

• #15514
I'd read then offer post to onwards if that's ok?

Why was the clock showing for 1:59 of the run, then it disappeared for the vital last minute?
I really didn't think you needed all the inspirational chat while it was going on and (my final moan) what has happened to Paula Radcliffe's accent?

• #15516
Rather annoyingly it appears that when they realised he couldn't make the 2 hours they dropped the clock.
-
• #15517
Yes, that's grand. Do you want to send me your address?
-
• #15518
Will PM, ta!

Made it out for a first very gentle jog for 2.5 weeks. Such a nice evening. Ran without a watch or a plan and saw a heron in the river. #inspiredbyaskwith

Entry lists are up for Highgate harriers night of 10000m, some very very high quality racing in prospect. If anybody is in the area next Saturday you should get along to watch.

First run since December last night, only covered 2 miles running (avg: 10:30/mile) with about half a mile walking in between and could have probably stretched it out a little but didn't want to overdo it on my first go given my current weight.
Running carrying 120kg sucks, but it's one of the few things that will get rid of the weight so I can be lighter when I run so I guess my own advice to myself is "suck it up, fatty".
quads were feeling it and kept getting a snaking quick sharp pain in my left foot for a bit but I think that was just it protesting at being forced to run again.
had a nice hot bath and was fine on my cycle to work albeit a little bit sore.

Good on you. You'll be surprised how quickly it all starts to come back, especially given the wealth of knowledge you carry. Definitely not like starting from scratch.
-
• #15523
yeah was definitely more a case of 'fuck it's pretty hard to run carrying this much weight' rather than 'fuck my legs have forgotten how to run'

Just had result of MRI on sciatica that has stopped me from running for last 3 months.
Good news - not sciatica (but there is a nerve issue that physio should sort out.
Less good news - there's a large chronic adductor tear that's referring pain up and down - need to go to another specialist now to find out what to do about that.
In short, still no running.
