Ta, looks like you worked hard today also, nice pacing.

Thanks. It was totally run on feel, I had total time and distance on my watch so was pleased when I saw the splits.
I'm considering an over distance training run next week, or at least over time. -

After years of procrastination, I joined a running club in Janaury. My first outing in a club shirt was to have been last weekend at a local 10k race. But a heavy cold meant I didn't make it to the start line. So now my first race for the club is the last leg of a team relay entered into the Teddy Hall Relays this Wednesday lunchtime. It starts and finishes on the track at Iffley Rd, Oxford where the 4 min mile record was broken for the first time - should be great, however I run on the day.

Oh hai, what club?
Are entries for THR still open? I might see if I can join a team :-)

Hi. Abingdon AC - mainly because I wanted to start doing track sessions. So far, so good. It seems to be a friendly club and track sessions are v well run and accommodate a range of abilities.
Unfortunately, entries closed first of March.

Excellent, Abingdon always seem like good guys/girls to me and hasn't Tilsey Park been recently refurbished? You should run xc next year.
I'm at Eynsham RR... We just do intervals in the local business park :-)

Grand Wozard Tibbs has convinced me to enter a marathon in October. The plan we discussed appears to be roughly 20 weeks. This all works right?
-
• #15059
20 weeks should be plenty for a marathon build for most, how far can you run in a week at the moment, look to build 1 mile per week on the long run up to 20 miles running at 75% max heart rate and add in at least 2 quality run sessions per week, 1 tempo and one interval (hills, 800s etc) and then if you can build in more add in a marathon pace shorter run as well.

@Grand-Wizard-Goma-Sauce have you managed to get dammit on the hansons plan?
-
• #15061
I was preaching hard from the pulpit of Hansons' yesterday, I can only hope I was convincing enough.

nope. on my second attempt I came down with the flu day after knocking 12 minutes off my half pb (1:38) then I subsequently ran a further 2 halfs (1:45, 1:43) over next 6 weeks and then 2 fulls (3:58, 4:19) in space of 2 weeks before I ended up with such a bad chest infection I had to stop running for months then.
nothing to do with hansons plan as after the flu I basically wasn't well enough to follow it anymore and was running no more than a couple times a week. my fitness was just enough that it let me carry on without training. pure idiocy on my part but nowt to do with the plan.
until that point I was well on track for a sub 3:30 full so the plan was working just as well. I wasn't feeling overtrained and the 1:38 half wasn't even a flat out effort. I could have kicked on the last 3 miles but held back.

So I'm doing a 10 km relay with a partner in May. 5x1km with a 3:45 - 4 min rest. Question is; what do I do during the rest. catch breath? catch breath for 2 mins then jog about until it's time to go again? keep moving for the full duration? Smoke fags and drink halfs of mild?

Going on my experience of doing the Madison Cross at Herne Hill every New Year's Day, you'll mainly have time to catch your breath and take the piss out of your fellow competitors.

sounds like a plan

This looks like it'll be a good read:

Inside lane at Tilsey Pk looks (and feels) somewhat newer than the rest, so probably not a full refurb. I joined too late for the xc, but plenty of people have said that it's good fun, so I guess I'll give it a go next year.

I'll be running the Leeds half at the end of May. I'm currently running 5ks in 26 mins and 10ks in just under an hour. Does anyone have any suggestions for a training plan to bring me in under 1h45?
