  • I was a 16 stone, fat cunt, 2 years ago- now 11 stone. No better way to melt off fat

  • @Arducius you have to be mental.

Maybe. That sort of thing does sound like fun to me.

Not give a fuck about prizes or goodie bag rubbish.

    Check.

Not care about selfies in the mud with your mates.

    Check.

And not stop going despite the conditions.

I have a child so ... check! Seriously though, I can be a stubborn bastard when it comes to things like not letting the weather get the better of me.

Running an ultra has been at the back of my mind for a while now, maybe I'll think about it seriously after April.

  • Ordered a new pair of trail shoes (Saucony Peregrine 6) as current pair is already up to near 600km (I'll keep them going to ~1000km). That came around a lot quicker than I thought it would.

Have ideas for an ultra I'd like to do but, likewise, I'll get the debut marathon and IM out of the way before I start getting too stupid about it all. I dislike running enough to know that I'm going to stick with it.

At least a marathon only takes part of a day unlike 600km Audaxes.

  • Check out the Fellsman as a debut-cheap, well organised and respected. For a multi day the Ring of Fire is great too- there's a lot of love in that race, run by friends and family in Anglesey, relatively easy navigation too ( just keep the sea to your left!)

  • @user49586 you're doing the right shit. #maprun

  • So I'm running the Southerns next Saturday. Had a crap January of running for a variety of reasons, unbelievably few miles. To top it off I've been off ill since Wednesday. Might get out for a slow trot today but realistically I'm going to be strolling round next week feeling sorry for myself.

  • sounds like ideal prep for the Southerns. Get yourself some 15mm spikes and it will all be fine!

I'm feeling more confident about next week than I was two weeks ago, have got some decent miles under my belt including 13 and a bit round Richmond Park this morning. I went out thinking it was going to be cold and it definitely wasn't.

  • ^ THIS. Went out thinking that it'd been a bit chilly when I'd been out for a walk earlier... ended up hotter than the sun.

  • Was supposed to do a 10 mile run including a Richmond Park lap this morning.

Very very hungover so it'll have to be done tomorrow. Trying not to let the plan slip...

  • Splashed out on these flyknit barefoot runners..
Hope to get started this week, if knee injury is healed.

  • ^ upper looks like chainmail, kinda cool.

Didn't one of the barefoot companies get legal slammed over their marketing claims recently?

  • Yeah, Vibram nearly two years ago. Mostly because they made stupid claims, not because they make a bad product.

  • Yeah I'll be bringing out the spikes I bought for Parly last year which were the longest I could find anywhere. The hardpack bits where a bit Bambi-on-ice though.

  • 44 miles for me this morning! On the bike. :(
I'm looking decidedly iffy for the Southerns, as my left heel is still giving me gyp despite a week off running. Tomorrow morning, will be attempting to get a very quick referral to the musculoskeletal clinic attached to my GP's surgery to see if I can get a diagnosis. In the mean time, more cycling and indoor rowing. At least my quads are ticking over nicely.

  • had an ace run yesterday morning despite slightly missing the target pace, mileage is creeping up (27 miles last week on top of 6hrs on the bike and 3 in the pool) and beginning to see the benefits of it.

My plan said 1:10 with 37 minutes @ 4:12 and 33 @ 3:58 actually did 4:15 and 4:05, up to 1:20 this week with a similar split and the same paces and then 1:30 the week after, hope its enough to get me down to 1:25 for Wokingham which I plan on tapering in to and not riding 130k the day before!

  • 16k and heavy heavy legs, slow too, but the first time I've run all the way round Richmond Park, bit hillier round the back than I expected but lovely out there.

With moving my long run to Monday, and having 19k scheduled for Sunday I'm looking at 38 miles in 7 days, but I'll probably bin the parkrun so it'll be just 35 miles.

  • Despite being knackered before setting out I had a really nice run yesterday evening. 7 miles along unlit roads and tow path, turned the head torch off for most of it (obviously except when a vehicle was approaching) and it's quite nice to just trot along in a kind of bubble. Very similar to cycling at night really - actually I had a rear bike light clipped to my shorts so very similar.

I did my long run on Saturday to fit in around weekend plans and encorporated a park run into my route. Somehow managed to only lose a minute on my previous course PB despite chatting to another runner pretty much all the way around, and having a 5 mile run (including a mile long hill) to the start.

Weekly total topped 35 miles last week but this week is an easier week on the plan so I have a chance to recover a little before next week which includes a 14 miler - a distance I've never run!

  • have just worked out my weekly mileages for the next few weeks, I think I managed a couple of 70k weeks when I was purely training for running but I've got 67k in the plan for next week! I suppose I did complain that last years I was finding I didn't have enough run training! hopefully it pays dividends for this seasons aims!

  • also got 73k in for next week but my soleus is playing up and have some soreness (think it's tight calf muscles causing it) made the mistake of trying to loosen things up and run it off at track on friday but didn't work out so well so have had to take a few days off to let it rest.

rode into work instead today as i find that helps loosen my legs up when things get too tight and I'm skipping leg day at the gym until I'm back running again.

  • this week: 56.5k (if I don't do 5k parkrun)

    next weeks: 49.5, 50.5, 46.5 (inc a ~200km bike ride), 38.5 (10k fast instead of long run), 56.5, 51.5, 48.6 (fast HM as long run), 62.5 (35k long run), 56.5, 50.5, 54.2 (inc marathon)

    That's enough for me!

  • Oi vey, I feel so lazy. I need to work my mileage up.

  • sounds very solid - don't forget the bike and swim bits!

    #tritalk

  • Daily x-training total: 11.562km (indoor rowing)

  • Hey I've managed 18.81 miles... this month.
