A rather cold Windermere morning run ('bout an hour in the snow) in the sartorial form requested by the forum (+ an underlayer).
Also:
Better representation of the snowfall attached- its almost completely white now. Beauty- wish I'd left a bit later.

I've done 2 runs this year. The first one I did my back in, and had to take a break until yesterday. The second one, yesterday, was 30 mins and I think I've fractured my foot (outside metatarsal). It was painful all day yesterday, now it's swollen and red and I'm hobbling badly.
Is there any point in going to A&E about a stress fracture? Is there anything they can do?

Also, llamas/alpacas always cheer up your run - there are some in the middle of the Isle of Dogs who I go to say hello to on lunchtime runs.

Re- Stress fractures.
It depends how busy your A&E is.
Probably worth it for a) a diagnostic standpoint and b) progress check if there is one.
Hope it isn't a stress #. -

Are your t-shirts too heavyweight?
Heal up soon on the foot though.

Moar alpacas!!! I ran with alpacas once, it was immensely distracting (to me - they didn't give a fuck).

^That's Isle of Dogs, yeah?
Will try to get to doc after work, fingers crossed it's not a frac. Just started physio as well yesterday, after 5 years of ignoring back problems.

It's a bit west of the wharf, but yeah.
Hope your foot gets better soon! -

I almost crashed into an alpaca farm on my first long drive after passing my test.

5k race tonight on my birthday.
Was therefore hoping I'd have some good luck and my quest for sub-20min would be over (despite not actually doing much speed work over he winter).Watch says 20:02...Will see what results say...

Close, maybe the results fairies will be on your side.
I've spent the last 10 days binge running and it feels great. Chucking all my thoughts about low training volumes to one side I've done more running than in any given month since last Mara (Apr 2009) and more than the whole of 2010.
Feel great for it, tonights run home was lovely. It's not sustainable though so gonna have to ease back, tho if it snows heavy tonight as forecast then a run to work in the morning might be best option...

good effort @pifko still cold seafront ride. wish I could have been there, guess I will insist on working fridays.
did an urban last night in Romsey, did I say that?
could be one of those rare epic freezing new forest sundays for the Busketts Lawn race, deep mature forest, tall trees mainly with a few clearings, can.not.wait
good weekend Runners- good times to you -

Fingers crossed.
Had my first incomplete training session of marathon build up today. Was trying warm up then 2 miles at hm pace, 2 @10k pace, 2 @ hm pace and warm down. Crashed during first mile of 10k pace so tried to hold hm for 4 miles. Really tough. Not helped by wind and hailstones as I ran round greenwich park.
Next week probably needs to be a lighter week, particularly with Southerns a week tomorrow.

When is the Mara? How long do people usually spend training for one? More experienced runners that is, not couch-to-VLM finisher.

Running to cycling performance crossover; after 8 weeks of running (after 8 years of cycling only) I'm finding "load bearing" out of the saddle/sprinty type efforts feeling much better than they used to. Any researchy type papers on the effects of one on t'other?

It is London so about 100 days.
Most people at my club are doing 18 week build ups if they are hoping to pb. Best runner will move on to marathon specific stuff after x country next week.
In other news the spine race is still going although majority of the field is finishing now. Spenser may well have finished by the morning.

NHS is amazing - got triaged, x-rayed, diagnosed and discharged within 35 mins of arrival at A&E - we'll miss it when it's gone.
Anyhow, it's almost certainly a stress fracture - they generally don't show on X-rays, but all the clinical indicators point that way. Need to get an MRI in the near future, can't do any running. fml

^ hope it heals quick. Aquajogging an option?

The last 5 runners (headed by Spenser) have appx 3km to go right now on the tracker, they're about to join the road into the finish. It's been fascinating all week, apparently there was a rescue Weds night where 3 runners turned back to bring another to safety, in tough conditions.
Huge respect for all starters, and chapeau to those reaching the finish, just amazing.

Looks like Spenser slowed a bit compared to the other 4. He must be able to smell the finish from here
(edit, according to http://spine.opentracking.co.uk/leaderboard/ he finished 10 mins ago. Maybe he's decided to run back to Edale?)

20:09. Still, it's a new PB

Watch says 26:01.45 for me (Wimbledon Common Parkrun), will see what the official timing is later on today. Hopefully it'll be 25:59 but I doubt it. HR wasn't silly either, avg of 168bpm which isn't particularly high for me.
A sub 26 5k was the next goal and Strava has given me a new estimated best 5k of 25:43, which is nice (down from 29:44 in September when I started running). Especially as VDOT suggests a 23:30 for my target weight.
Guess it's 25:30 next.
Also 33.4km running for the week (not including ~10k from 3 hours of 5-a-side football).

Easing myself back in to running after a 3 year hiatus for a bit of a mood lifter. Managed a meager 1.8k with the dog and whilst she's ready for more (she is a cocker spaniel though!) I am currently sprawled out on the living room floor. I wasn't massively in to it before (was averaging about 5km a day with the odd 10km thrown in) but I feel that 1.8k isn't really enough to see progress any time soon. Any suggestions on a suitable distance to build up my stamina again or is it just a mild case of HTFU?
First full run in to work. 11.9km. 1:10:04. Not fast but an initial time to improve upon. Aiming to get that down to sub 1h (especially if I want a sub 45m 10k).
Felt very slow but that's actually faster than I thought I'd be. Anything under 6:00/km pace was a bonus for me.
Might need to check the cables under my desk for 30 minutes before lunch though.
