Looking forward to my run tonight, will be reviewing this on the go. Doubt it'll be great but I'm sure there'll be some nostalgic spurts.

Yep, am resting up. I hate resting!
Thought you were a doc (or a training one)? Or did I make that up in my mind?
-
• #10060
Training. Hopefully in August I might be one. The caveat of not examining you though would remain then!

Just had acupuncture for the first time for my runners knee. Feels weird. Worked through but not tired. Fingers crossed it'll work

I had acupuncture on my back not long ago. Not summat I believe in, but the osteo was a mate and wanted to try it. File alongside sugar pills, magnetic bracelets and healing crystals.

And osteopathy...

I either had a heart attack or I've broken another heart rate monitor. I ran to work this morning and noticed at the end of the run that my heart rate was 214, while standing about queuing in the shop near my office. I tried to take my pulse but couldn't feel my heart beat, which then made me panic and wonder if I was actually already dead, resulting in me buying all the wrong things from the shop so I could get back to the office and get someone else to measure my pulse, or perform CPR or something.
Had a look at the run on strava and the last few hundred metres have my heart rate at 225, which seems unlikely. Phew. I'm not dead. I feel like I've been given a lease of life.

Re acupuncture. I had it a few years ago, I quite enjoyed it although it's a bit like chewing tin foil.

What HRM do you have? The garmin ones are a bit shit, and mine regularly shows a BPM of 200+
Except when I was doing intervals, and developed an ectopic rhythm - my HR dropped instantly from 180 BPM to 140 BPM mid-interval.
I felt a bit sick.

I'm on my 3rd garmin one in a year. I'd call garmin AGAIN but I don't have a spare hour.

Grab a Polar strap off ebay - cheaper than Garmin straps, and you can use the Garmin HRM unit on them.

And osteopathy...
Of course, but it was a mate and I let her have a crack. Osteo's mainly bollocks, but they can help with manipulation of lower back vertebrae which are out of whack. Manipulation is done with a unicorn horn, obvs.

My Forerunner 405 used to jump above 200bpm now and then. I think it easily got confused by other signals. London buses used to send it up towards 250bpm and there must be some signal broadcast near the bus turnaround point on Danebury Avenue in Roehampton as it jumped up to 240bpm going past there nearly every time even if there were no buses at all.
Current Forerunner 110 hasn't had any problems (same old HR strap). No problems with my Edge 705 either.

I hope that afterwards, once she had fixed you back and made it feel better, you said to her that it's just voodoo and witchcraft, and that she is a shameless charlatan, with a questionable career choice.
-
• #10072
We had a feisty debate about homeopathy while she was in the process of working my back - funnily enough, she was less sceptical than most. For a shameless charlatan, she was pretty magnanimous in not inflicting any physical retribution while I was at her mercy.

My HRM is being a twat too. Changed the battery after my 910xt failed to find it for an entire run (how do I even know I'm moving?). Then it seemed to Lock on 100bpm on the turbo. As an obedient follower of Technology I buried myself trying up the BPM up and near ended myself.
In more positive News. The weather is shite for cycling, yet awesome for running. So I'm putting in some decent miles and getting back into it.
Fun stuff.

Are they generally known to be a bit shit then? Haven't noticed any spikes or anomalies with mine. I make sure the contacts are wet each time and have the strap pretty tight.

Ah, I'm referring to the older style more plasticky one, as opposed to the newer version BTW.
Rest it.
You've either got some tendonitis, a bit of ligament strain, strained a muscle, or most likely you've bruised it by landing awkwardly.
Give it a week off and get a tennis ball to stretch your foot out.
Test it out carefully next week.
NB. IANAD, I have not examined the foot, and I'm literally just guessing.
