stupid tash's are a part of Australian cricket history.
Totally agree with the smug attitude vs hard grafft and enjoyment which Lehmann has installed. Stokes has been the only positive to come out of this tour and Broad can hold his head up also.
England need to regroup re build and get back to hard work that took them up to No1 -

i don't remember who said it up thread, but it has pedalo/bootcamp preparation written all over it. just with a bit more complacency thrown in, due to the perceived difference in sides from the summer ashes.

Come on boys. Finish it tonight.

Well done Aus - their best team for years. Troy Cooley must get a lot of credit for that bowling attack. and DL has helped immensely. We need to work out a few places now, opener, no3, keeper and a spinner and plan for at least two new fast bowlers one now ( I am really beginning to wonder who's cat Finn has shagged) and one ready in two years time.

In the olden days, well after Botham's lot anyway. I remember seeing England's 'best' players working their hearts out against oppositions that clearly contained far superior talent. Our players were ordinary, but they did their best.
This has looked like a complete contrast with some of the best players in the world, with a proven track record of doing well against the Aus players, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else and walking around in a strop because they perceive some kind of entitlement. This is, hands down, the most disappointing series of non-cricket I've seen us play. And I've seen a few bad ones!
Looking forward to the summer now, as improvement is inevitable.

Of those who played...
Cook - will be back and scoring runs again once he sorts himself out, maybe unburdened by captaincy
Carberry - Have we got an alternative? He showed glimpses and fell to some great fielding at times. Sadly our second highest run scorer in the series
Trott - don't expect to see him back sadly. Hope he can continue to enjoy county cricket like Trescothick did
Pietersen - He's an idiot. Let his era come to an end naturally and move on
Bell - class act who needs fucking kick up the arse really hard
Root - Will be back to score runs. A full season playing county cricket might help him
Ballance - Not convinced - back to county cricket
Bairstow - Suspect technique. Got bowled too many times last summer and looked poor again. I hold very little hope for him
Prior - Bit of an ego. Believed the hype about himself. I hope he can rediscover his old form
Swann - Cheerio. Was great to watch but not for the last two years.
Panesar - As above
Borthwick - Won't play a Test for England ever again. Nowhere near good enough
Stokes - The only player who can walk away having enhanced his reputation. He's not a strike bowler but seems to have a nack of picking up wickets
Broad - Will be fine. Not a great tour but not big changes needed
Anderson - No help from conditions or pitch. Still one of the top three bowlers in the world
Bresnan - Not fit and conditions didn't suit
Tremlett - Not fit. Rushed back
Rankin - Not enough of a threat and not worth perservering with at 29 -

Largely agree with you^
However who would be captain if Cook was unburdened?
Perhaps Cook unburdened with opening and moved to 3 as Captain -
• #3538
I would keep pietersen in the team when the openers do a job and have runs on the board he can tear apart the opposition with a rapid 50 or 70. But i must say he is running close to getting the boot.

Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

When I've seen him play in county / 1st class games, Carberry looks a better much player than those around him. I say stick.

Will England ever win a game of cricket in any form ever again?
Seems a silly question, but not right now.

Watch us fuck this one up as well...

Wow... good to finally get a win, even if it's the least important match of the entire series.

Against half a team. Does this mean Australia lose #1 50ov spot?

Flowers gone. I wonder if someone from entirely outside the set-up might be a better choice than Giles?

Wheelie?
Australia have got almost everything right.
Preparation, planning and execution in every department. England were stupid not to have learned from 2006/7, instead they bigged themselves up and had that pathetic team picture all looking smug in immaculate suits in the long room. By contrast the Aus picture had their team in filthy whites, covered in shit and looking knackered (staged obv but the message was clear). Australia may not have the youngest or most skilled team in the world, but they've made the best of what they have got and have barely allowed England to take even a session without coming back hard and relentless.
I just wish they could have done it without the stupid moustaches and way OTT media attacks.
