What a turnaround. Johnson broke England

• #3507
To quote Cricinfo's commentary, "England have practically dipped a brush into the whitewash and started on themselves."

• #3508
Aussies are calling it 'Pomwash' for added humiliation

a good day's (night's?) cricket.
same old story though. the aus top 4 need to work out how to get runs and eng need to work out how to combat aus going after their new/young bowlers (and how to get haddin out without losing momentum.
i am surprised at the team selection, keeping carberry for root?

Whitewash will be so depressing.

Instead of selecting the players likely to give the best chance of winning a consolation test, they've simply decided to throw in anyone who hasn't had a cap yet. Once again, the selectors are having a negative influence on the team.

Compelling stuff...
Like rubbernecking a car crash
Can't stop listening -

23-5. These are meant to be professional cricketers. This is a man who could barely bowl a length six months ago. Without wanting to sound dramatic this is probably the worst English test side ever. At least against the great Windies side they had to face more than one genuinely fast bowler. These have only got a 32 year old on an Indian summer.

Cook is a fucking human joke. Shouldering arms to a fat medium pacer. FFS

• #3518
are you watching the same game everyone else is?

It's also the 'best' side ever. (Apart from the debutantes) How do you justify that?
They're just good players who are woefully off form and demotivated. And like the worst examples of 'overtraining' you see in athletes, it gets worse the longer it goes on.
It was clear from the second test that this would likely be a 5:0 whitewash, you can't expect tired and dissolusioned players to 'play themselves better'.I think England will be in the top 2 again in a couple of seasons. The young players are more encouraging than they've ever been and although I don't agree that Cook should 'go' or even Flower right now, I do think the dedicated bowling and batting coaches need to be changed.

Agree with this^
Cook and Flower need to stay and rebuild confidence. There are some good new players especially Stokes who is a potential power force like beefy. Gooch should go. He interviewed awfully passing the buck stating that the Oz side outplayed England (partially true) rather than any real critique of England or of himselfIndia this summer will be interesting... And the one day extension of this disaster will probably be painful.

i agree, but i'd still get rid of flower. as you say, the core of players in the eng side have proven they are good enough at this level, but have lost motivation, become tired and perhaps complacent. the fact that they have run out of decent game plans (and plan bs) points to back room problems. look at the difference boof made with aus.
there are some good young players in the wings. hanging everyone in the squad that has underperformed is not the environment to develop them.

well its nearly over, i wont be able to play the guessing game of how England have got on as i wake up in te early hours to check up on the progress.
this morning i was 57 runs out this morning.Hats off to Oz they have been far far better, and have looked as if they are enjoying Cricket. ooh that hurt
Indeed all a bit to late though still worth aiming to avoid the humiliation of a whitewash.
England must now remember how to bat
