  • Hehe! Just jealous bro.

  • Still need to figure out the bike issue. Total luggage allowance is 20kg and the dimensions Height, width and length of bag can only add up to total of 157cm apparently. a bike bag/box is going to bigger than that looking at the dimmensions of some online.

  • I became addicted to the meat pie/Ice Break combo this last trip... Normally from Brumby's if there wasn't a good little indy bakery around... Magic combination... Mmmmm...

Best hangover cure in the world, but Masters Ice coffee was the fav (WA). when I left there was about 10 different types of ice coffee. Local small town bakeries FTW on the pie front, just look for the queue.

    Really? wow.

Mandy's frame was couriered interstate in a cardboard BMX box. You could fit a track frame in one of those pretty easily... but yeah, a whole bike pulled apart might be a bit of a mission to fit in a 157cm square box. Especially with a wheelset.

  • Although I read that on an ex-pat site rather than the Emirates site. Their site doesn't mention the dimensions of checked baggage. So I should be OK with a bike bag/box.

  • i got hassled on last leg of my US trip recently, although i was guarenteed, i would have no hassles with a proper bike box.
some airlanes have max dimensions for luggage and anything over you can get charged for oversize items (if they want to flex their muscles). 90% of the time you will be fine.

  • the way i got around the baggage sizing and sports equipment restrictions when i flew to the states was putting the frame in bag and then putting the wheelset in abox cut to size. clothes etc went into these. I got questioned by one jobsworth and just said they were personal items.

This time i'm flying with Air NZ who let who take a bike as apiece of luggage and allow an extra 10kg!

At least you got plenty of shops near you where you can get a bike box easily enough. Although catching the tube with it is another story...

  • Folks are coming down to see me off and take me to the airport. Result.

I hope you've got all the tools to put it back together when I arrive!

  • is that for real? terrible, terrible public art. Props to them for not pushing the Gormley button, but a bull? how very original. bleurgh.

Dougie, I just saw this thread! Shit man, you will be missed! Have a great time and good luck getting your bike out there.

  • Mad cow disease?

  • What is it now... 6 weeks til you're here?

  • Can you please send some pricing information.. how much is iced coffee now? How much is a pack of Tim Tam? Cadbury's chocolate? Tub of Caramello ice cream? How much for a cappucino from a nice cafe?

  • Iced coffee from a servo runs to $3 now! TimTams were $2.29 from Wollies or Safeway or whatever they like to call themselves. You can get TimTams here now, I did a direct comparison last week with p-p-p-p-penguins and a TimTam Slam is better with a penguin :) The only decent Cadburys chocolate was from the Lolly shops imported direct from the UK which cost an arm and a leg but its worth the difference. You'd get a good 250gm bar of Aussie Cadburys Dairymilk for $3. Cappucino on DeGraves in Melbourne - $4. This info is 3 months old now though.

Hippy whats the deal with Mildura? When I was there, I wanted to stay for just one night but everyplace would only take me if I stayed a week. Am I just that awesome???

  • gives them time to hide the body.
