You might be surprised about Adelaide. Don't write it off. I personally really like it. It's not as show pony as melbourne and syds.

it's also close to the barossa valley, one of the best wine-growing regions in aus. which is great if you like wine (which i do).

@ texas - don't worry. we plan to eat a lot of asian food.

@ kat/jol - we're flying emirates. they make allowances for sporting firearms, but not bikes. it was a cheap deal though.

@jol - not sure about work. i've worked in tv operations for the last 4 years. there are some tv stations there, but i would be happy to change direction for anything, esp anything interesting and/or fun!

how heavy is your bike? approx 8kgs + box of 4kgs, leaves you, say 10kg of clothing for check-in. wear heaps on the plane.

pack your hand carry to the max. if it looks like you'll get away with it, do NOT put it on the scale. if not, leave most of the contents with a mate and stuff it back in after check-in.

i've done this before and managed to get close to 40kg.

Off topic, but... There's an incredible new sushi place in Brisbane CBD, Love Roll Sushi... Soft shell crab with cream cheese, grilled eel, honey roast pork to name a few, and cheap as chips, $2 for a big ol' roll! Had lunch there everytime I was in the city, don't think I'll be able to eat sushi in London again... :[

Generic OTP fixed/fixed wheelsets are (at time of writing) available from Brunswick Cycles for $135. Pretty cheap if you can source a frame on arrival.

Fuck what the haters say, Adelaide is awesome. Less dog and pony show than Melbourne and Sydney, easier to ride in (less pesky trams and hills!), a burgeoning tight knit fixed scene, couple of free Velodromes, amazing beer, awesome pubs, no seedy gangland / Underbelly past (yet) and nice beaches.

I've lived in Adelaide 29 years, been to Melbourne god knows how many times, (skating, playing in bands, riding bikes) and it's fine, but not that amazing. Sure Melbourne is "cooler", but Adelaide has it's charm.

Plus Dougie, me and Mandy are here, and I have a nice connection to get you a track frame... what does Melbourne have? Coffee and hipsters!

I kid...
