  • +1 for raffle - set up a justgivig account in the name of the charity - people donate online and the charity gets tax benefit; then you manage the draw. Easy peasie lemon squeezie.

  • What is this faff and bollocks?
Ebay that shit and donate the money.

  • interestingly, it includes parts that don't exist anywhere else on the planet, which is a nice bonus. 17t dura ace sproket for me*

*this of course being the part that dies not exists

  • giving away free bikes...how gay is that?

  • boy did I arrive at the party late. Can I have the air from the tires?

  • Momentary happiness from a few quid and them back to suffering very helpfull!

You're way out of line there and I'm saying that as someone with a major commitment to to inner city kid's/young people's charities and a huge vested interest in seeing every penny possible donated to them, I work for one and have done for the last 15 years.

I also remember having a conversation with a very serious donor (both in terms of giving serious amounts of money to charity and giving serious thought about how to ensure they achieved the maximum impact with the money they donated). They were astonished by just how desperate the need was in some parts of Africa and just how much more could be achieved with £20,000 donated to an African rather than a British charity and I'm not talking about momentary happiness I'm talking amount permanent changes in quality of life and the ability to live independently without needing to depend on further hand-outs.

Last thing I'd want to see is everyone abandoning British charities to donate to African ones, but giving to charity and who you give to is a matter personal choice. I'll happily uphold your right to give your opinion of someone else's choice, as long, by the same token, you recognise my right to observe that your criticism seems largely informed by ignorance and prejudice.

  • Dibs on winning raffle ticket.
    That's how this works, right?

    +1,Raffle excellent idea.

  • i reckon it would be fairer if the tickets were expensive, and limit everyone to a maximum of 1 ticket, then the charity would receive maximum benefit, and the guys who don't have a lot of spare doh wouldn't be gazumped by someone who has stacks

say 50 people bought one at £20 per ticket, then there would be a grand for charity, which in fairness is far more than the bike is probably worth so one person gets a cheap bike, several worthy causes benefit.

as others have said its completely up to the OP but he wants to do something generous and this method would allow him to give on multiple fronts, the lucky winner, the forum and his chosen charity!

  • £20 is a lot of money for a punt at a bike you probably aren't going to win.

Also have you read my pm about the sprocket and spanner ed?

  • "n" bids please

  • Wot's all this raffle stuff?

How about a straight-up chess tournament round robin? Winner takes all. Can't say fairer than that.
    Or arm wrestle.

Otherwise count me in for the raffle.

I could be wrong, but I think it unlikely you'd get 50 people buying a raffle ticket for £20 each, I don't know if you'd get 200 people to pay £5 for a raffle ticket, but I reckon that's more likely than getting 50 to pay £20 for a ticket. Rather than sell raffle tickets, how about selling something people might want, like a spoke card, could cut a corner off of each card to go into the draw. Not suggesting a spoke card is worth anything like £5, but given the choice between being left with a losing raffle ticket or a spoke card, know which I'd choose :)

OK OK the raffle it is...

  • +1 for the raffle

  • I think this is a really good idea, fair play to bush bros.
i'm not too keen on that bike, but i'd pay a fiver for a ticket if it was going to charity.
and if i won, i would raffle it off again for the courier fund/forum.

  • What spaghetti said, except I'd just have to 'rok the spok' to Wests for the "laugh til I vomit" factor

  • +1000 to the raffle idea, I was being chirlish and desperate with my begging post.
