I always find it funny when someone picks on Scientology nutters, the basis of their religion (Xenu, DC8's , Volcanoes etc) is no more bat shit mental than pretty much every other traditional religion.
My post had Christianity in mind.
Strangely I actually think scientology is more rooted in reality that the three currently popular monotheisms.
Don't get me wrong, I am with you when you say it is bat shit mental, but their claims, as ludicrous as they are, break no rules of reality as far as I am aware (well, at least break them less readily.)
I would say that we are so used to the bizarre and peverse claims of - for instance - Christianity, that we fail to see how fantastically nonsensical they are, they are woven into our culture, whereas the claims of Scientology are relatively new, and conversely, novel.
After all what is more likely, aliens (basically us living in another location) or angels ? One is, at least, rooted in reason, if unsupported by evidence.

I just meant that scientology seems much more sinister and culty than the cults on your list
edit: not saying that other religions don't have sinister aspects: Spanish Inquisition and violent Jihad etc

Buddhism is a cult.Buddhism is certainly less corrosive than the others, and on the whole I would say it comes out - comparitively - looking almost sane.
But it still makes the usual unknowable supernatural claims, for instance it still knows (like all religions, does not think but knows) people with conditions such as spina bifida that are wheelchair bound are there not because of a neural tube defect but because of their own transgressions on a previous life.
But the biggest criticism of Buddhism is still the encouragement of the acceptance of suffering (in keeping with the monotheisms).
But saying that If we had to have one preeminent world superstition - It would have to be Buddhism.

No need to refer to the past, the 'work' the 'Catholic Church' has done in Africa over the last decade makes scientology look like the Red Cross.

None of them are that bad (excluding scientology) as long they're not fundamentalist.
