  • I'm so jealous. I wish I could have been there. I've not read the entire thread, but has someone considered getting out the fountain pen and writing a few words for The Chap magazine.

  • Critical Mass should be replaced by Tweed Run, they served a MUCH better purpose than what Critical Mass originally should, after all I genuinely think it actually encourage quite a handful of people to cycles, showing them that they don't need to dress in lyrca tight, big expensive helmet, waterproof jacket etc. in order to just commute 2 miles to work.

+1 I would have turn up on the dahon but alas my tweed suit is in Chicago ...:(

  • Just back, pretty drunk, but what a magnificent, uplifting day. No hope of meeting everyone there but just great to see Dancing James, Vee and Jay, Skully, Precise, 50/14, Shark, Cornelius, JImbilly, Hippy and many, many others. I spend all day riding those roads every week and I've never felt so happy doing it. Thanks so much to Teddy and to everyone who guarded corners and junctions.
Hope everyone's post-ride evening was as enchanting as mine. Next time anyone criticises the LFGSS they should look at this thread and realise what a wonderful place this is and how capable it is of putting on such joyous events.
    cheers one and all

    +1

Good words sir I dont think I could have said it better my self!

And not just because I'm pissed!

  • I just got home at 5.00am, that was a day that truly deserves the word EPIC.

  • oh man, that looks epic!

well done! any plans for a summer excursion to the sea side?

  • Critical Mass at its height can attract more than 1,000 riders. Do you really think you can get them all into tweed? ;)

god damn it man, we must TRY!

  • i've just had this great mental image of a film spot panning from room to room where throughout london cyclists pull on their plus fours and long socks and adjust their cravats, with a cheeky wink in the mirror, but i can't think of the right song to be playing in the background... don't think dre is it ;)

    maybe it was

  • That looks like a great day, how I wish I could have come!
    Next time...for sure...

  • Who was the dashing chap on a celeste green ROBERTS track frame. Lovely whip Sir!

  • that was an excellent day well done teddy.
great lot of riding with a great load of chaps

  • This was a stunning day. I can't believe the weather, the organisation, the badges and maps, the prizes, and the effort of all the riders and sponsors. This forum is the best. I had a great time!

  • Well done everybody! A splendid day indeed. I think you raised the organisational bar with this one Teddy, Chap-eau!

Oliver, don't knock it! this is a great suggestion (CMers dressing up as Nob.) ... obviously CM can't have any rules, but I'd HIGHLY recommend dressing like a toffee nosed wanker, the police suddenly start being nice to one! Can't imagine why they suddenly got all obsequious when they thought we were members of the Noble Classes.

+1, this forum aint a bad place to be.

Especially thanks to Teddy who kep this cool throughout, whilst some wouldn't have.

And many thanks the excellent CM-style blockers, who did it with aplomb and genteel courtesy, you know who you are. It made all the difference as the group hardly ever broke up. Running red lights in tweed is somehow so much more acceptable.

Nice to meet some people I haven't before, and bump into a few I already knew but hardly recognised in their thornproof finery. Lovely to see so many saddlebags.

A wonderful day. Thanks to all who got involved.

  • will add my tuppence in here, great day, great fucking day, was on a tweed high until I went to bed in the early hours, will be wearing the tweed outfit into work one day soon. Massive turnout, so good natured and the onlookers who saw us as we perambulated from one road to another were constantly amazed.
Big thanks to Teddy for organising, Prav for being just Prav and helping out when and where necessary, Jos and Keith for having such a great bike shop where, a load of tweed sporting cyclists can roll up, gawk at bike bits, and grab coffee. The bloke at the working mens club for making the best cuppa I've had in a long time, the other stewards, dancing james, jacqui, pink gotti, superprecise for keeping the people moving and together, and everyone for being so fucking 531.
Once I'm back on the booze I might even try that gin I won.
Tweed ride is now officially part of the forum tradition, up there with the bridges ride, and jaunts to the seaside.
I think we should have Tweed sundays, where smaller groups take to the streets in tweed and gracefully make their way hither and yon.

I look forward to riding in my tweed with many of you again.

Yours faithfully in Tweed, Cornelius Tweedfoot of Tweedington Manor...

  • well well, i'll try not to gush but I just want to say thanks to everyone for making SO MUCH effort. I knew it would be a bit of a spectacle but I was amazed by just how good it was. A truly memorable day. Furthermore, I've still yet to meet anyone through this forum that I haven't liked.

Just to reiterate, Teddy's done us proud here and the attention to detail was incredible (the gin, the perfectly in-keeping prizes, the brilliant name tags, the period-correct raffle tickets...). Maximum credit also to Ved for the badges and everyone else for things like tea (in bone china of course), flapjacks, stilton, copious good quality brandy and so forth.

    Thanks.

I did unfortunately manage to crash full speed into one of those 'P' shaped barriers along the regents canal towpath on my way home but didn't hurt myself or the bike too badly. Lucky not to have ended up in the drink! That strong beer at East drinks did me in fairly comprehensively.

I'll get my few photos up later on.

  • Thanks to Teddy and all participants for such a great day. I was amazed at how tolerant motorists were, and I agree with other members that it was a really great advert for cycling. There was an overwhelming feeling of how great it is to be riding bicycles.

Booby prize goes to the dickhead policeman at the Bank of England who said to me ( I remember the words exactly) 'is this some sort of protest, or just stupidity', at which point I said 'end of conversation mate' and walked away.

    Let's do more!!!!

  • Before I post up a thread about it, I have a Sporran, filled with tools which I was holding for someone, think it was fresh. But if it was yours give description and will arrange for its safe return...

  • Looks like you guys had a truly epic day. gutted I didnt make it out, but was put off by a bit of a dodgy knee and a complete lack of Tweed. next time!

  • Throughly elating to see some good old bonhomie returning to the heart of Blighty! Well done chaps and chappettes, here's to the next one, aye!

  • Did you catch a train from Kings X or Euston? I yelled "TALLY HO" at someone heading that way on my way home..

As I was turning right into St Pancras? I just about managed a 'ta ta' in return!

Fantastic day, nice to meet and chat to a number of you guys. I will definitely be coming down for future events and rides.

Bravo Zulus to Teddy and the guys and girls who performed sterling marshalling duties!

  • absolutely tip-top day out chaps and chapesses

honourable mention in despatches to Teddy for organising and all the stewards for marshalling with grace and decorum

Some spiffing outfits and a lovely attitude by all.

    what-ho
