  • By the way, if you had kept on the orange road through the Great Park, you wouldn't have been lost. At the chaos roundabout it is the second road to Windsor, signed for the Great Park.

  • clive you are coming out to box hill soon. it's only a 40 mile loop just a bit hillier, if you think of it as the same energy expelled as a flat 80miler you will piss it.

  • Mr S - yes. My next venture is likely to be to Box Hill for some reps and flapjack.

  • I'm gutted to be missing out on these rides . The Windsor loop is an old favorite. The last time on the bike was a fixed lap with you Clive in RP all those months ago. Since then I have been ordered off the bike by the doctors again having had another fainting attack. Hoping to get the all clear end of the month but I am going to be so off the pace its going to be embarrassing.....

Its going to be great to be back on a bike but I sense its going to be painful 6 months regaining the fitness and losing the 1.5 stone I seem to have found this year just to keep up .

  • d.mac. Really sorry to hear this. Hope you back on your bike before too long. I will look forward to riding with you. I may be able to keep pace with you!

  • nice trot that - RP looked amazing this morning with all the tall grasses covered in frost.

Brisk pace outward bound and Laura was feeling it a bit with not being on a road bike for very long so Me, Desi and Rickymundo rode to Runnymede with her.

Laura and Jim got the train back and the resulting homeward trip picked up the pace - I got an average of 31.5 kph for the last 50k's

t'was cold and that but nice to be out and riding with good company

  • was gutted to miss this

got back from the west country at midday

went on a few laps of RP this afternoon, but not the same as doing it with friends

    really jealous now

All this South-West stuff is very time-consuming.

If my ankle heals up, Clive, we'll get a RPLZ run heading out North-East. There's either undulating routes round the lanes or a sort of ven diagram double loop that's 10 miles round Epping Forest with a couple of interesting climbs (and better road surface than Boxhill). The loop can be done as many times as you fancy, and is only about 10 miles out from EC1/N1.

And that Boxhill café serves up a load of dried out over-priced shit these days.

  • Sounds like fun! We did a few RP laps instead, which were coooold.

  • Heh, that hill was lovely, knee is a bit painful at the moment, but the ascent and descent in the park really capped things off nicely :-D

I hope there's not a painful knee-related pun lurking in there! Knee problems = not nice.

No, no pun, just my knee is still a little sore from getting knocked off by a car <1month ago.

Get better soon. Glad it wasn't a pun. It would have been one of the cruellest I'd heard in a while, phew.

Sounds like a plan. Thanks BMMF

Have to see if Club member Jos will give us a discount on coffees at TdV as a meeting point?

i couldn't agree more mr bringmemyfix. there's some great lanes just out NE.

i'd suggest lea bridge rd > woodford green > grange hill (doo doo duh dooo) > stapleford abbotts > navestock > toot hill > theydon gamon > theydon bois > epping new rd through the forest home.

you can extend it east past kelvedon hatch towards writtle, or i prefer north through the lavers/matchings/rodings. hatfield heath is a good midway stop point.

then if you don't know when to stop there's always past stansted to saffron walden, then west where there's a classic truckers stop that cyclists use near reed on the A10.

  • bloody hell! excellent cross marketing

How come that gets past my work filter but Rcc does not?

not if you live in wandsworth. which if you are a mtb'er and road cyclist is probably the best place to live in london with dorking only 30mins away by train (for mtb).

Join with Cycling Club Hackney FTW. Sunday 10am Lee Valley Ice Centre. Would be cool to get a massive run together.

Loads more good destinations/staging posts in Essex, e.g. Blackmore, Chelmsford, or even as far out as Maldon.

  • Oliver, you are perfectly well aware that your spiritual home is Rollapaluza CC. Be true to your heart and join.

But Clive, I am already in two clubs. I'm sure they'll notice that I'm three-timing them (two-timing I can just about manage) and then what? I'm sure I'll just roll up a loser.

A Cycle Club is not like a wife or girl friend...in so many ways.

Ah, OK. Must have got confused by your talk about spiritual homes.

  • How are your Saturdays Clive? I'd be up for another one of these.. as long as you don't shoot off and leave the slower riders like bmmf and me behind again..

Fuck I need to get off my arse and do some long rides. Hopefully the Reliability Rides and early sportives will help sort my slackness out.

  • hippy. Ved is talking of us doing another one of these next weekend - Sunday 18 Jan which suits me.

Saturdays I am currently devoting to RPM's training sessions which, although shorter, are impacting upon my speed and push me hard, particularly in the sprint.

Hope you can make next Sunday - let's chat on Wednesday anyway.
