here's a fairly straightforward Tottenham-Epping route you could try:
www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=405108
For a more interesting return leg, you could go via Theydon Bois and up High Beach, then follow paths inside Epping Forest to avoid Epping New Road.
others may be able to give better advice on that bit (when I did it last sunday I was following someone who knows the roads there much better - BMMF - otherwise I would normally stick to Epping New Road, which isn't great, but it's simple!)

does anyone here ride at Crystal Palace? I can't seem to find out much about the circuit there re: opening times, rules, availability etc. This is probably a dumb question but I basically need to find somewhere relatively quiet that I can ride for 90 mins 100pm+ that isn't a million miles away from my house and doesn't have traffic lights at every junction.
I did an hour around new cross / nunhead / dulwich through dulwich park and back around but it was pretty busy and not a very smooth journey. Can you just turn up to Crystal Palace and use the circuit or is it booked out all the time by groups etc?
Does anyone know of any good routes in the SE14 area that are quiet enough to really put the foot down for 60-90min training rides without ending up in a fight with a van? :/

velocio, is there any way we can transfer bikely or gmap routes into this ride with gps and have it convert them.
As those maps/routes with the elevation look spanking.. -

I've just been re-entering them manually by putting the windows side by side and drawing them. It only takes 5 minutes and it's enabled me to fix errors I've found in the routes I've converted and to double check little bits to make sure they're correct. I figured if I was converting a ride I'd want them to be flawless so I can put them on the GPS device... quality over quantity.

You can zoom on those elevation charts btw... just select two points and it will show the bit of route that has matches the elevation. Click the elevation chart once to reset it back to the full route.

[[/URL]Here's a link to a ride I did at the end of last year. It goes out of North London and picks up one of the national cycling network routes up to Hatfield and back the same way (although you can follow the cycling network route all the way up to Stevenage if you're feeling energetic).
*There is a small bit of the route just before crossing the M25 which was quite rough and muddy when I did it, but it's short enough to carry your bike if you don't want to ruin your nice shiny bike.

export a GPX file from bikely or gmap, then import it into ridewithgps.
Only do this if you're confident the original route was planned well and not just vaguely pinned around a map. The route engines only gained the "follow the road" thing in the last couple of years... best to have an accurate route than to find yourself u-turning because of a confused device.

Just cycled to Bedford with re-cycled in the snow... 60 miles all in.
Wouldn't recommend the route we took to any-one though, it was mostly terrifying A-roads. In the dark.
It was great up till st.Albans and then it all got a bit national speed limity.
Lessons learned on the ride:
Luton is a shit-hole.
Lucozade is your friend, as are snickers.
A-roads are fucking scary.
Bedford is also a shit-hole.
Having said that, it was a bloody good day out. The distance was fine, although brakeless fixed kinda stops making any sense once you leave zone 2.
Need to do more epics like this...

The route listed above was a great little ride on mostly roads that are fairly free from traffic.
If you've got the time there are some great little pubs along the route too.

Question for you guys:
My company are doing an "Around Every Office in a Day" which, due to low subscription, they have increased to 2 days. I'll be heading out of London on the London - Bristol - Cardiff leg with a few less experience cyclists.
Anyone done that route? Looks like Sustrans is telling me to take Route 4 the whole way.
Has anyone done this? I'd be very willing to look at alternatives that stay off the bike route unless you all tell me that it is pretty easily navigated.
