A few friends and I are cycling London to Dover via Rochester and Canterbury next Saturday, its going to be an easy pace as we are all virtually just of the winter sofa.
I'm using Bikemaps to plot a route but I just wanted to know what people's experiences were of the A206, A226 and A2. We really would prefer quieter roads, but then there can be a lot of twists and turns and we don't have a GPS, only some smart phones. So any experiences of these roads would be great to hear, or other routes even.
Cheers

To be honest I don't think those roads have great reputations, and lots of the busy roads out to Canterbury usually get the thumbs down. You could very well have a good time but that would be a relatively grim way to get to Dover.
I would suggest taking this route http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=295298 which Skive put together. It's a beautiful ride, but beware it's pretty bumpy. I would route it on RideWithGPS because then you can route yourself on nice roads and then print out a cribsheet. Viola! No Garmin required. You know, old school style. You'll see a lot more the countryside and still use a phone to check it's going ok. Also if you don't like the elevation profile of Skive's route just move it around the hills you don't fancy.

Does anybody have any good ideas for a 100ish mile non-hilly loop from Battersea?
Surrey is lovely and everything but it's well hilly, and for my first 100 mile ride I want it to be quite flat. How is Kent, or Berkshire?
Much appreciated

Kent is hillier than Surrey.
In your shoes, I'd ride out west to Ascot (or thereabouts) and back. I've got a loop around Farnborough that you can have if you want but you might want to make up your own bit that doesn't actually go to Farnborough itself because it's horrible, but it's very easy going out in that direction if you keep away from the Chilterns.

Yeah I'd like to see your Farnborough route please. That's a shame that Farnborough is shit, it's one of those places that trains always stop at and I thought it sounded cute and quaint, but a google image search for Farnborough town centre has disabused me of that notion.

Here you go:

Most of the route is pretty nice, what I'd do is head out as far as Frimley (just before Farno) and then North a bit towards Crowthorne, looping back to London via Ascot. The bit around Teddington is a bit of a mess as I got lost while trying to avoid Hampton Court Road - don't go along Hampton Court Road, it'll send you mad from the traffic jams. Going through Teddington is loads better.

Stay north of the Thames at Walton, it's much nicer as you head along the river.

Me and a mate are riding up to Hull on the 22nd for an overnight stay and then train back down to Norwich the day after. I've Frankensteined a route out of an old LEL route for the Spalding to Hull leg and a few Audax routes I found on Bikely.

Does a one know any nice rides around the new forest? Ideally 25-30 miles. Also ideally starting and ending at Brockenhurst train station.

^ I did a 25 mile circular ride from Brockenhurst but can't for the life of me remember it. I got a route card from the bike hire place by the station, you could try dropping in and taking your pick - when I went they had about 10 different routes of all different lengths.

Sounds good! Thanks for the tip!

Rhinefield Ornamental Drive north of Brockenhurst is a beautiful woodland road with minimal cars on it, would highly recommend including that in your route.
