If you head south, you'll find the M25 ridge, get over this and it can be pretty flat. Stick to B road and it'll be nice.
Come back over the ridge and you'll be downhill all the way home.check out ridewithgps.com for making routes. It'll give you an elevation profile at the bottom so you can see how much it's going to hurt.
West of gatwick is generally flatter than east. But far West of gatwick and it's hill again - white downs.
If you go to my RWGPS profile http://ridewithgps.com/users/113414 you'll find some routes i do. Most are a bit longer, but will give you a starting point. For a qucik, in M25 route see the standard bedelstead loop, as done by dulwich paragon.

Riding from Peckham, not a fan of hills but learning to love (i.e. would prefer a few climbs rather than a high rolling profile) and something in region of 40-50 miles either in a loop or ride out, train back style.
Thanks!
Let me know if you find any gems. I'm looking for exactly the same except coming from E&C...

Ditto here actually, though from Camberwell. As a note of interest, there's some routes on the second page going from Brixton to Box hill. Tried the quieter one out today (think it's the second on the page) and was pretty nice, until I got completely lost around the M25.

One of my regular loops a few years back involved heading out through Elmers End (so from Camberwell or E&C you'd be heading up Denmark Hill, through North Dulwich and up to the transmitter at Crystal Palace and then either down the west side of the park (Anerley) or the east side (Penge). Then down through West Wickham, down Corkscrew Hill, along Layhams Road, Skid Hill Lane, left onto the B269, down into Westerham, along a bit of the A25 and then back up Star Hill or Polhill and head north until the A232 and then back to West Wickham.
Variations included doing stretches of the Pilgrims Way, rightly featured in the road porn thread. Last time I rode along that road on my way to Sevenoaks I had a moment of feeling that all was well with the world. Lasted about 5 minutes.
Quite busy with cyclists even those years ago but one of the quickest ways to get into the country for me, and a nice mix of hilly and gentle.

Did the Cambridge route linked above last week, it's very nice indeed, thanks forum.
I think this is a bit of a shot in the dark, but does anyone know a route out to Pinewood? My starting point is Streatham Hill but I'm alright up to Fulham/Shepherd's Bush - just wondering if anyone could advise on that A4020 road out to Southall and Hillingdon - is it ok or really icky?

Looking for some relatively short (<25m) sunny sunday loops from SW to take my girlfriend on. I'm thinking as scenic and flat as pos, with a couple of pretty pub/park stops. Any ideas? (I'm only a recent visitor to the south side).

Where in SW?
Use ridewithgps.com to plan something out to see the elevation.

Yeah I was just being lazy ;) Brixton way. I don't know of any particularly scenic/pretty towns south of there to head towards..

You'll struggle with 25mile loop to get anywhere really nice.
To get down to the m25 is about 16miles and the roads to get there are all pretty boring. But once you're beyond it it's really nice. So i'd say, get the train out, ride around and then get the train back.
If you just want to ride, then I'd go out through crystal palace and do some lanes between coulsden/purley and orpington. That's the nicest area inside of the M25. -

Got a few day riding coming up this weekend and next week.
Saturday, My friend Shawn and I are riding to Storrington, West Sussex to go and see a mate. This is the proposed route:

Then on Sunday we'll probably just go and check out the local countryside before catching a train back in to town.
The following Tuesday, I 'm riding to Oxford to see my Dad. Will be using the standard forum ride from Richmond I think, unless anyone has a better idea? After a night in Oxford, its along to Worcester to visit my mum. After some research, I found this:
http://www.cotswoldcycling.com/files/cotswold_line_cycle_route.pdf
Looks like the nicest way to go. Sod following the A44 all the way.
Has anyone ever done this route??Cheers, Sweats.

from hunter's bar roundabout you can go through endcliffe park on the bridleway until you get to the quiet lane, then up to redmires reservoir and there's another bridleway that goes to the bottom of stanage. then you'll probably have to take the road to castleton and over winnat's and pick up the pennine bridleway which goes up to glossop. not sure about an off road route in from glossop, have a look on an OS map.

Am riding to Kent coast on Friday from Peckham and going to use Pilgrims Way from Gillingham to Ashford - seems to be mixed surfaces.
Are there any stretches I need to look out for/avoid if I'm on my road bike?
-
• #250
You could probably do it all on a roadbike, if it remains dry-ish, although it depends what kind of surfaces you're willing to ride on. I've done quite a lot of the bridleway sections up to Maidstone. It was fun. The off-road sections are obviously slower going, and it won't be pancake flat, but I did on my fixiewoo and none of it was impassable.
If you want to be fastidious - I was when I did it - use something like http://www.twomaps.com/ to see which sections are bridleways/byways/roads/footpaths/etc, and avoid when and where you want. I'm a bit anal about not riding on footpaths, although it was very quiet when I did it, which was towards the end of autumn.
I would wouldn't worry about it too much. Take the roads if you don't like the look of something. I have OS Explorer maps of that area (2) if you want to go proper old skool.
