  • The mini TRPs? About £40 for the pair (eBay).

I was dicking around on the new bike this morning, it all feels awesome.

  • Nice.

Are you double brake on the new set up?

  • Avid 7's were good.

Ultimates look smooth and I believe you can run cable from either side?

Paul are really good. The adjustability is spot on. You can run on any side meaning you put the cable in the best place. You can slide up and down and twist pads to adjust without undoing the pad bolts.

    All comes down to £££.

I was thinking if you get a mini v it would only require a short pull lever.
    Good for single brake.

Was also wondering about short pull road disc callipers with short pull levers...

  • Are you double brake on the new set up?

Yep, I might go back to FBO for ease, but in my opinion double brakes gives you more braking power (and you can carve a tighter line under braking) and control (says the guy with short pull / poor modulation).

Was also wondering about short pull road disc callipers with short pull levers...

If I ever went to disc brakes, I'd get the smallest rotor possible (130/140), short pull discs might be a bit jumpy?

  • cough

  • ...The best value brake pad is the Gooey range...

What are they like in the wet? I'm FBO, and it's only in the wet that I have problems.

  • Similar to any other pad to be honest (not great), they are excellent when it's warm/dry (soft compound).

Kool stop are pretty good in the wet, but you're still going to have inadequate braking power when compared to discs.

    "Feather your brakes!"

  • Poor pablo i witnessed him break his third polo bike last night. Both myself and Ale have seen him do all three. Geneve / Amsterdam / Bcn. He's sure there is a conspiracy. :(

  • I'm pretty sure this used to be Otto's bike, now back playing polo.

  • and brake pads, i'm thinking these at £5 or is it worth buying kool stops or something else?

I'm using the Clarks pads above and really they're pretty shitty when dry but work when it's wet despite being dual compound. Make of that what you will.

  • You have to think about durability too though. The only thing better than Kool Stops I have seen is this blue compound used for trials that you get from the States. Can't remember the name for the life of me...

  • I'm a fan of cheap pads. Tried Koop stop, but prefered xt/xtr. Then got some fibrax v brake pads on a pair of second hand avid brakes. They are all I have used since, work well and are nice a cheap.

  • ... Cool to see my old bike back on the court!

  • just got the Acera v brakes, £10. great brakes at a disposable price. i expect them to last until if not throughout winter.

  • A bit of cross posting but here is the CP thread for my new bike :D http://www.lfgss.com/thread88970.html

  • Looking for some advice :)

I've got an Deore XT freehub (8-9spd) and I'm looking for the best SS conversion kit. Looking at reviews the DMR sounds the best bet but I am looking for a 20t sproket (to run a 32t chain ring up front on 26" wheels).

I had a look at the On-One SS sprocket and it seems ideal (if pricey) but I would need to buy a spacer set and lock ring separately but I cant seem to find anywhere that will do that. Also with the On-One sprocket width (4mm) I am worried that a spacer kit would give me issues with chainline.

Thanks, sorry, I am a n00b with MTB bits and bobs

  • The come with a few spacers so you can play with the chainline a bit. Otherwise a bike shop should have a few spare cassette spacers in their parts bin.

Using a standard cassette sprocket on a Shimano hub will be fine, it's stuff like Hope, Halo, DT and the like that will need the wide foot. They seem to have a softer cassette body. Been using a shimano hub for the past year with a standard sprocket and there's no signs of damage.

    Get one of these badboys

  • Picking up an old DMR trailstar to start playing polo on, trading it for a bigger MTB, not sure whether to keep the hope rear disc or run it fixed and get a bolt on sprocket from velosolo.
It had 24" wheels on it at the moment, will eventually get some 26" one but you reckon I could get away with the 24's?

  • keep the hope, you'll want it.

  • Yeah, I had thought as much. I'm probably gunna run it as a winter run around as well so I may as well keep it SS

  • I spent last night uglifying my polo bike with disk wheels and nokon... I love this bike.

  • Nice.

  • How does it ride compared to Adam's? It looks good! (secretly wish I'd got an Oak...)

  • does ryan have a rough retail price for his frames, or does it completely depend on what you're after?
