How about black epoxy powdercoat? This link says it comes out better than regular powdercoat on everything but weatherability... a mate had a frame done this way years ago... way tuff.

Yeah Armourtex gets my vote...had my polo bike done there about 3 months ago and the finish is great and seems to be really strong in all areas (no paint chips on drop outs or places that normally get scratched/chips)

Oh and they normally turn around a job in 2/3 days

A single colour is cheaper than a clearcoat at Armourtex, £60 compared to £80... That was a year ago, I enquired for a beater I was gonna build... Paint was gonna cost more than the frame did... >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Vaz's paint chips really easily... Take it to Armourtex, Joni...
The function is less important than the form. Vaz's paint fails on both counts. Chips really easily, in my experience. One wouldn't expect high quality, but chipping straight from the shop.....

Seems there's no bulk job discount
:(

Hope they charge half the price for half the frame... -

Oh shame, in that case the fof might stay under its coat of black electrical tape for a while longer (your stickers are still safe underneath!).

I stripped my Pomp with a wire brush about four months ago and coated it in a mega can of Halfords clear. In most areas the metal is still shiny, but around the top tube where cables and my knees rub etc, it's starting to get dots of orange surface rust (and we play indoors).
I've had two bikes powder coated at Armourtex, both I've been incredibly pleased with the initial finish but my Steamroller was chipped and scratched all over within 9 months of having it done, just from locking it to railings etc. I should imagine a polo bike would take much more of a beating.
In short, neither are perfect, and neither have been better (with regards to protection and durability) than the finish that came from the factory.

amourtex gets my vote, if you want to check the quality check my black mtb.
I think they do a price for frame and forks but they charge £45 min(i think) per colour. So 2 tone frame and forks would be iirc £110ish single colour £65-70, think this is with laquer.

Sorry, I'm holding onto my brakes kev.

Clear coats are rubbish in my experience: you get one (tiny) chip and then the rust spreads underneath before expanding and dislodging further bits of varnish.
If you looked after a clear coated bike it'd probably be fine? But for polo and all-weather riding it's not going to last very long.
If you use clear lacquer you don't even need a chip because the lacquer isn't waterproof so the moisture gets in to the metal anyway.
One of guys up here has a stripped Fuji track that isn't coated at all, it's got surface rust but isn't too bad, and that's playing/riding in Glasgow weather and getting all the salt spray on it (they really over-grit the roads up here).

No worries Gabes.
Would you be interested in splitting the cost of a pair, I'll take the rear if you want the front?
Money is tight for me at the moment. -

My pomp is coming close to 2 years RAW and it's still in very good condition

Damnit, that doesn't help Josh. :)
Maybe I'll Nitromors it and if it gets bad I can always get it painted then right?

Why take the paint off in the first place? I don't understand.

I think Joni's bike is getting a nip and a tuck

I know this is probably no help right now kev, but I'm considering going front disc, but it won't be for a couple of months.
Put an ad up in the forum, I bet someone else will want the front?!
-
• #7497
i am probably going to go front disk aswell. does it make a huge difference using a rear disk caliper on the front?

It's really heavy paint, she's trying to slim the bike down a bit.

joni i think its worth spending the money on a bike you'll ride for some time. Knowing your habits i would say this is not you.
