  • you guys are SO not on trend. Brian Dillman runs a system with a lever for the front brake and a hydraulic push button for the rear brake. Or so I've heard.

  • Where are you getting these spy photos?

  • On the internet

  • I don't see the point...

  • Independent control of both brakes

  • Thanks, Einstein... :P

  • Still think it's overkill, but whatever floats yer boat... Etc...

  • oh, that's interesting, I shall think a bit more about a dual independent lever design. who's got 10 grand to invest in getting a little production going?

  • Pravs been rocking independently controlled brakes for ages!

  • is this brian's bike?
I wonder how it feels to apply full pressure on both? Is it even doable - brain-wise - in an emergency?

  • Woadis been running that setup for a while. Super fucking dodgy at first, but I reckon it's a valid option when you get used to it - requires really fast reflexes though.

  • interesting setup but a touch of the overkill perhaps?

  • Is it even doable - brain-wise?

If you're asking the question, then I doubt it.

  • Of course it is, Putting your fingers and thumb together is something we've been doing for millions of years.

  • However, I still think it's a pretty weak idea for brakes.

  • sandy:I know, I had a chat with him about it already last winter, but never thought it would interest more people.

  • Cam sez:

That set up looks nice. You can just use the lever for the rear brake most of the time, skid turns etc but for a quick stop, straight line or otherwise just move your thumb a bit to the right and push. I'd be well easy and you'd get used to it in no time.

In fact I'm well up for giving it a go but I can't think of what thumb shifter to use. If it's good enough for Dillman...

  • yeah, if anything that seems more intuitive, i prefer the idea of two independant brakes, especially as my mechanical skills suck

  • I'm pretty sure that's not Dilman's bike.

  • It's not, it's some other dude in MKE

  • Any idea on who makes the lever then? Or is it an adapted thumb shifter?

  • You're an adapted thumb shifter...

  • It's just a thumb shifter.

I'd guess it has to be the front-mech shifter (as it has no friction) or a rear one with the friction removed somehow.

  • Like the look of this.

Would the shifter need to have a spring like a brake lever or would the brake spring push it back enough?
