  • What cranks are they?

A Q factor of ~170mm, measured from one outside pedal boss face to the other, is considered narrow for bmx cranks (without modification). This is still generally wider than a lot of road and mountain bike cranks.

    190mm q factor with a 155mm axle.
the shortest replacement axle i can find is 140mm... is there anything else i should consider?

  • Profile do a 5 1/4" spindle for fixed gear bikes which is 133mm

Pretty sure i'm running the 5 5/8" spindle, which is 142mm

  • cool. the 133 is expensive so i'll go with the 142.
i think 133 may be to narrow anyway for chainstay clearance.

  • yeah i'm pretty sure i have the 5/8's spindle and i have no problems

  • Anybody have some 1/8" forks they could sell me? Current ones are twisted to shit.

Bike's small, so not too much steerer necessary. Running a 26" front wheel, so something with 26" v-mounts would be cool (but nothing suspension corrected, or with massive clerances). Or a 700c fork without, and quite tight clearance (for a 700c wheel), would work as well.

  • Ade, you can have my old Steamroller forks, but they are probably less than ideal, lemme know if nothing else turns up.

  • Cool, might hit you up. If anything, would be a good backup while waiting to acquire something more permanent.

  • Running a 26'' front wheel, so something with 26'' v-mounts would be cool (but nothing suspension corrected, or with massive clerances)

I've got some MTB ones in the cellar, will try to remember to measure them up and get you some photos.

  • Adrianne, Joni have some old MTB forks I give her for the loaner bike, he was given them away no long ago, try PMing her and find out what happen with them

  • she's in Oz for a coupla a weeks though.

  • Does anyone play polo on a BMX or are they too small?

You need the saddle up where you can sit on it comfortably and still spin/reach for the ball

  • Does anyone play polo on a BMX or are they too small?

if you are a small fella, you may go with it, but I think they are far from perfect
24" or 26" will be way better

  • One of our lot used to play on a 24, he was good at defending and tackling as he was lower so could reach further but was rubbish at shooting because his mallet was too long, so i guess it depends on what you are after.

  • if anyone wants to upgrade a water bottle ...

  • used to play on a bmx cruiser with the manchester lot a few years back, the handling was spot on for polo but it was just too low. even with the saddle as high as it would go on a 400mm post it was still way off proper height to pedal, so any fast breakaways I was left behind. bleh.

  • For those of you in the elephant polo league, there's some large gauge gas pipe on Bolingbroke Grove in Clapham.

  • G'day. I gave the forks away after asking on here if anyone wants them, sorry A. I do have Iains forks that are really solid, small amount of rake and brand new. Think he was after about $20 (no pound sign on rascist Aussie keyboard).
Back 1st Feb if you can wait!

  • Cool. Not sure if I should just go big and get Onza or go small and wait for when I've got more spending money with something used/cheap. #suckatmakingdecisions

  • Oh, shit yeah Lal - i have a pair of brand new 26" 1/8 beefy forks with v-brake mounts. Have a look at them, if you can arrange it with Wicksie.

    : )

  • Noice! Powder or rattlecan?

    Looks good whatever!

  • rattlecan, not a very good job at that.
