  • XTR ftw.

  • Slx are so good and also the shimano hone ...middleburn are great if you get the new 4 arms spider 104 bcd and you can use any chain ring . .not the uno spider

  • hone / LX is great cheap middle ground.

I dont get why you need such strong cranks though. not like we're DHing is it? I use FSA k-force light.

  • Uno spider saves loads of weight though Sombra.

I <3 my Middleburns, crash a lot, and they're still fine. I mainly bought them cus they look gorgeous, mind.

Before that I was rocking Deore cranks like Luca suggests... They were on 3 polobikes and a townbike, which they got sold with, and I never had a problem with them. For £60 I'd find it very difficult to beat them in a value for money argument.

  • Forgot to mention, if you sell the chainrings that come with them (Deore HT2) on eBay, you make back most of your money. Stick on a stainlesssteel surly ring, bombproof chainset for hardly any money.

    Travel.

Right now, when I travel, I leave my back wheel on, and my front wheel covers the chainring, so it can't really get hit, but with my new coupled bike that will be a different matter.

  • Zip tie a frying pan round it.

  • Just take the crank off? Or at least drive side...

  • Yeah, or just have a spare chainring I guess

    Do you even external BB?

  • Do you even external BB?

    Square taper forever..

  • Pfft, you barely exert any torque on the court, you even charge sat down.

    Though true.
charge sat down, and? leg power > weight.

  • I've broken two crank sets on my polo bike, four if you include spider snapping.

I think the crashing and bike piles puts unusual forces on cranks... But I am much heavier than most and I do crash a lot.

  • crashing

    yes

    bike piles

    really?

  • It happens as you get older, especially if you cycle in the rain... Apparently ;)

  • Hey John, how about you just pack your bike properly!?

  • leg power

You use more muscle groups out of the saddle than seated.

  • Does anyone has experince with Shimano ZEE cranks? Looks pretty solid and come quite cheap...

  • They're aimed at people who want to do DH and freeride but ain't got the money for saint, generally the zee stuff is very good but a touch heavier or not quite as strong, although all of it will be plenty tough for polo.

  • After about a year of collecting parts, I finally have the bike set up and look the way I want.
Will be going with disc brake for next tournament season though.
