Go Oak or go home and work your own geometry out, or ask a friend to work it out for you, then get an Oak anyway

or a Magic frame...

I'm going 26" with a front disc brake. MagicxOak and Max Power are top of my list at the moment. Is it just Iain and Aidan with Max Powers in London?
Have I missed out any other choices? (Not interested in a hija as I don't want the risk if dodgey geo/stuff not being bang on).
My Hija was bang on. Built it up and played in a tournament the next day. No problems.

Oak is a bit more expensive but is painted and made locally. Not sure where I stand on alu vs steel and one being better than the other. Going to try and ride a max power and a few oaks over the next few weeks before committing.
I think it was a couple of frames coming straight from Marino that I remember having sone small issues. I'm sure the vast majority are totally fine. I'm writing all of this at work on the sly, didn't mean to suggest that Marino/hija frames weren't up to scratch.

Considering the quality of work and materials that have gone into Oak polo frames and the time spent considering the player's style and requirements, they're an epic bargain.

Marino is a whole load busier nowadays than when he made his first polo frames for the UK scene a few years ago. Getting people like Alejandro and the Velo Lacuma guys to standardise the orders a bit means he already knows what he's doing, so it's far less likely to go wrong. Rincewind's Mielec looks pretty good but they misread the diagrams hilariously the first time round.

Those diagrams were a bit nuts.

Yes, for my Mielec I made very simple/clear diagrams. The frame was spot on except for needing to find a 1mm headset spacer (super hard!).

And the paint job.

For a minimal fee I can sign the frame next time I'm in London. Please contact my PR team: fanmail@poloambassador.com

I hope you actually have that domain.

How do people rate sliding drop outs? Good? Bad? indifferent?
-
• #10167
If you don't need a rear disk I don't really see the point

Depends if the disc brake mount is on the slider i.e.:
Or if the slider is just there to provide chain tension...i.e. hub gears.
New trend coming?

Is there a size chart for Max Power frames anywhere? I can't find anything on their website

Only works if fixed, although I did suggest it about three years ago.
Ok maybe it was a little unfair, I don't follow things religiously but I'm sure I remember/have seen some dubious brake mount positioning (they still worked though). I didn't mean to say that as a trend his frames aren't up to scratch, more that I value high levels of quality control and don't mind paying for it.
Anyway the point is that I don't want anything experimental or custom specc'd. I want to give someone a pile of money and receive a frame that I know works. Having someone in Europe/London to talk to also appeals to me.
