• btw is there any possibility of obtaining a giant flask? i bet peeps would love hot soup or tea. im thinking of spectators here

    you are way too ambitious!

i think that carpark is locked in the evenings. i never played there, but it looks lumpy. still, could work for a demonstration at least. let's try to sort it for the next CM.

  • I'm only ambitious in theory.

  • Polo Wed - Calthorpe BB courts - 8pm
    Weathers looking better this week.

  • what can i plug my mallet with?

  • what can i plug my mallet with?

Plug handle end or mallet head end?

  • like the handle end of my mallet, it keeps stabbing me

  • Try a cork. You may need to hack away at one with a knife to get in. The ones from a bottle of sherry or port with the capped ends I heard works well. Just have to polish off the port. Keeps you warm in any case.

  • Port or whisky cork would work well, I can offer a helping hand if you need help finishing the bottle...

I use a handle bar plug, has to be quite a robust plastic one though, might be cheaper than bottle of booze but not as much fun.

  • despite the comedic half-court, it was fun last night. good to see some new faces - hopefully they'll stick with it through polo's current dark days.

we'll try 6.30 next week - if that doesn't work out i'm happy to hassle the council (via the cycling officer) but am also a bit worried it could backfire. thoughts?

the other option is that we focus on sunday polo instead, at the highgate court.

  • Graham (the cycling officer) is a top guy, and will totally understand the needs to use the courts regularly but stay disorganised enough to remain free from insurance and fee problems... sound him out, he's not a typical council nob.

  • did we have this problem last year? I wonder if they've been adjusted for the end of british summer time. When the clocks go back end of oct, will they still be on 7-9(or whatever it is) or it'll put them in perfect time for when we want them 8-10ish

  • we had no problem last year, when the lights were on from very early (possibly even as it got dark) to 10.30.

when we started playing at calthorpe again a couple of weeks ago for the winter season, they didn't switch on until 8.15ish (30-45 minutes *after *it got dark). then i called the park services and the pavillion manager, who wasn't at all helpful, and then it seemed they'd moved forward and are now on when we get there, but turn off really early (9.15ish).

    it's totally illogical and infuriating.

we're going to try and work around things, but if it proves unmanageable, we'll get in touch with the council (via graham). i'm sure he personally is a nice guy, but i have zero faith in their ability to help us out, and it could backfire massively (bicycle ban) so it's last-ditch only.

  • tory cutbacks - no free illumination for bike golf hipsters

  • Going for a drink with Graham later * so I'll mention it. He works in transportation but may know the right person in parks/leisure/sport who could help out.

*Fighting Cocks if you're in B13 tonight Dan

  • We should all go to the mythically superior land of solihull.

I hear they have a mini velodrome, skate ramps and swimming pools in the parks over there.

I do believe they call it Bike Snooker round my way...

  • reminder: polo is starting at 6.30 on wednesday, continuing to whenever the lights turn out (was 9.15 last week)

try to get there at 6.30 if you can, so games can be played.

  • The clocks go back soon so the lights will be on later. Maybe they alter the switch on time then.

  • yeah, that's what i'm hoping for. fingers crossed.

    POLO 6.30 Calthorpe tomorrow!

  • Don't thinking I'm gonna be able to make it down tonight folks. Maybe see you Sunday if anyones up for it?

  • This may be a bit redundant to those of you on the court now, but I can't make polo tonight I'm afraid.

  • really good to see new faces at polo tonight - stick with us over the coming weeks while we try to establish ourselves at the court. hopefully the locals will get used to us being there on wednesdays after a summer of absence, and the lights will stay on later too.

i could potentially do sunday 3.30-4pm start, but highgate may be busy by then. i brought up the idea of playing sunday mornings (10-1pm maybe) but it was met with very lukewarm responses.

  • remember: 6.30pm this wednesday. wrap up warm, it's going to get chilly!
