• I just dont get your non acceptance of innovation. I gave a good example of something different that you can do wih a fairly limited music style and you've both shot it down like the true luddites you are.

Woah....i didn't shoot it down...i already said i own a vestax deck and that i've been known to mix in reverse too....but it's not something that can be done often enough to make it worth having the feature for me....as somebody who mixes on three decks i'd hardly call myself a luddite...i just don't think the feature is as important as good solid, trustworthy decks that stay in time.

  • there you go again! sweeping statments that it is TOTALLY useless to have. If it is used just once in a set to good effect then how can it be called useless?

correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the best use of an isolator is when you have a multi speaker system i.e. seperate bass bins and mids/tweeters elsewhere allowing you to optimise the signal between the the different amps that service them?

  • is that at me?

  • Good DJ's that can't mix = Bob Jones(not when he plays house though)

    don't forget gilles peterson

What's your fuckin problem? It's just opinions not a sweeping statement and it's my opinion that having used the Vestax decks on numerous occasions and not using the reverse play feature once that it is totally pointless - THAT'S MY OPINION, I'm pleased for you if you think it's some dynamic, groundbreaking weapon for the dancefloor

  • Pistanator - do you want your t-shirt back?

  • is that at me?

    no, @MrP

  • Already got it thanks but I'll take the shades off you

  • Cos at the Big Chill it's full of yummy mummy, Guardian readers that think it's cool to like Norman Jay although they've never heard him
One of life's mysterys Norman Jay. How the fuck has he made a living from being a fuckin shite DJ!?

    now pisti, hate the hate

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jydm5Ra1tP8&feature=related

but in rebuttal the big chill's a great festival, great selection of people, really easy going atmosphere, and an eclectic selection of live acts and dj's, saw sebatien tellier play la ritournelle on a piano, fucking superb it was, as well as the heritage orchestra, playing les fleur to round off the last set on a sunday night/monday morning, also saw gilles peterson kill it on a sunday afternoon, playing welcome to jamrock, a bit patchy and sunshine of your love, in one orgiastically fantastic banging set which wouldn't have been out of place at 2am rather than 2pm.

    Bright times, Bright times.

anyway norman jay plays a norman jay set, he's not a shite dj, he's slightly pompous, and is prone to blowing his own trumpet, but he's got great tunes and he plays them well. If you don't like the way he plays, feel he isn't proficient in the dark art of mixing, don't go and see him play.
Personally I'd prefer to be by the good times bus at carnival than listening to rampage. But I'm against the intro verse chorus, next tune syndrome that seems to have overtaken most dj's nowadays. Play me the really good bit at the end, rather than slamming into the next throwaway 12" which is big at the moment...

You chat shit sometimes. There's no problem here

  • I've been to Big Chill twice and loved them on both occasions, just kept away from the mainstand where Norman Jay plays
I can pretty much tell you his whole playlist everytime he plays....ZZZzzzzZZZzzzzzZZZZzzzz

  • You chat shit sometimes. There's no problem here

    Not the only one...

So why you getting so vexxed about defending the Vestax?

  • Not the only one...

get out the mirror, narcassist :-p

It took me a long time to decide on them over technics (due to their improvments). I like the product and over the years have heard alot of folk spout nonsense about them. No different to Scott's defence of BMW

  • So the only reason you've got the hump is cos you don't like being told you've made a bad purchase after spending your hard earned cash?? If you like them and you're happy using them then that's fine but 99% of DJs and clubs use Technics. There's a reason for that.

  • And it's not 'nonsense' it's qualified opinions

  • Jeeezus - I didnt ask for some mass-debate/argument (yes make jokes) on technical jargon about musical equipment, all I wanted was some advice (which I did get quite alot of! thanks) but Yeah I don't see what this argument is acheiving.. I would prefer more info on mixers and speakers etc.
    cheers

  • Whatever you do, don't get Vestax decks! ;-)

  • ....or a Pioneer mixer

  • think I may just save for 1200s tbh

I have a hump cos I've been watching porn.

  • if you can't mix 2 records you're not a dj - you're an ipod

I've been DJ-ing* for years and I don't mix... I don't play dance music tho', diff kinda thing I guess...

    • For DJ-ing read, turn up at a venue, proceed to get drunk, play 45s that make people jump up and down (sometimes)...
  • I've heard nothing but emotive mumbo jumbo as to why one is better than than the other.
I got nowt but love for both brands of turntables. My PDX2000 has a stright tone arm which is great for tracking but as I dont really do any scratching nowadays I want a pair technics mk4 to do an audiophille tone arm retro-fit.

  • YouTube - DJ Wheelie-Bag

DJ Wheelie Bag, lovely fella, he makes these... Me and my mate were gonna get matching ones made up to look like white Vox AC15s with the turntables opening out left and right so we could battle... Awesome things...

  • not relevant to the op but saw this and wondered....where is $19,000 in a turntable?

The VPI HR-X Turntable by TEAC is a turntable that features a new belt-driven design that comes with a 50-mm thick platter which actually floats on an air suspension system at 45rpm. it costs a whopping $19,000
