Good little bar Gramophone, shame I'll be back in Paris :-(

You can do the same with a 'normal' mixer by using the channel sliders and leaving the x-fader centered. Some of the guys back home would do that. Don't ask me why (ok you can if you really want).
gives you better control over your mixes- rather than than the weighting of the X-fader

The Isolator is decent enough too, really need to whack it up to get the full, smooth sounds goin but my speakers ain't loud enough and my neighbours lose it when I have it too loud anyway. Taken it out to a few clubs before, kicks in a treat on a decent system
The isolator is decent enough in the flat but agree, on a decent loud system it fails. Was looking at an E&S at the time but didn't wanna splash the cash when I was only gonna be using it indoors
make up your mind. Is it good or not?

it's so much easier with Tracktor, you'll be juggling like a pro in a matter or minutes.
That quote just says it all for me....but that's an argument i really can't be bothered to get into again.

its not about the spec sheet and how many features a deck has....
Yes it is. If an alternative is also built well enough and it out stips the formers spec list, its better.
-
• #107
At the end of the day though a deck really doesn't need any more features than a good pitch control and a solid platter for me....joysticks and reverse aren't really an important factor for me....but that's personal preferance.

Never heard of G Wilson. There's a vid on youtube (first live dj on tv or something). Funny comments and check out his phones!
it kinda funny, when I lived in the 'pool Greg did his first come back gig in 3345 Parr street recording studios, where I did the DJ bookings. The owner said he wanted to add Greg to the roster and I was like,Greg who???
Within the space of months his name was bloody everywhere. But like others have said you'll struggle to meet a nicer bloke in the industry, funny kids too. -

make up your mind. Is it good or not?
Yes, for the bedroom and bars/clubs with a decentish system BUT if you take it to a club with an AMAZING system, ie Plastic People or Ministry(the backroom) it'll sound whack

someone mentioned the the DEMI GOD and possibly the best DJ around, Derrick May and a piece of magic he brought to a night: Mixing in a track in reverse. (something I've also done- I'm sure my nan was FEELING IT!) but this is something that I could only do on my vestax cos techincs didn't go for this feature cos:
At the end of the day though a deck really doesn't need any more features than a good pitch control and a solid platter
Without this innovation from Vestax would techics have retro fitted them to later marques of the 1200/1210?
You're probably right Derricks an idiot with his his fuckin reverse -

Who cares about playing a record backwards? What's the point? You just look a flash twat

actually i had numark decks that played backwards - i did use it. you need to be playing a certain style, but you can grab the platter on the downbeat, spin it in to reverse and hit the reverse button at the same time. if you get it right you can stay on the beat and it sounds awesome

But DJing is about the music you play and reading the crowd. you don't have to be a able to mix to be a good DJ. Just go to a few Northern Soul nights.

• #117
if you can't mix 2 records you're not a dj - you're an ipod
-
• #118
I've mixed in reverse on a couple of my mixtapes...both with a vestax and by hand on my technics...but how often can you really play in reverse unless you play ultra minimal tracks all night? it's just not needed enough to bother having it there.

Although it does help a great deal
Shit DJ's that can't mix = James Lavelle, Norman Jay(when he plays house)
Good DJ's that can't mix = Bob Jones(not when he plays house though)

fixed :-)

Not true at all.
Being a DJ is about the effort and love involved with collecting your records.
It's about reading the dance floor and making the punters dance.
You obviously haven't been to a Northern Soul night

Thats a fucking irony. You've got a six channel vintage re-edition rotary mixer servicing just a pair of dex plus an insolator with a when you have just one amp and one pair of speakers! I can see at least one flash twat here!
I just dont get your non acceptance of innovation. I gave a good example of something different that you can do wih a fairly limited music style and you've both shot it down like the true luddites you are.I suppose you use an abacus to work out how much to pay the horse and cart ride home?

Yea I don't understand Norman Jay........... They go mad for him at the big chill festival.

Cos at the Big Chill it's full of yummy mummy, Guardian readers that think it's cool to like Norman Jay although they've never heard him
One of life's mysterys Norman Jay. How the fuck has he made a living from being a fuckin shite DJ!? -

There's innovation and pointlessness(is that a word?) and it is totally pointless to have a reverse play feature on a turntable
And what's flash about having a Urei and isolator? Is it flash cos I like to have a decent sound quality while playing my 12"s in my flat or is it flash cos you think I spent loads of money?
