And even if he were to leave in the summer, there's no guarantee he'll end up at Chelsea. Remember, Fergie never sold his best players to United's rivals. The only acceptable outcome from this for Chelsea would be to get Rooney in return, nothing less.

And for what it's worth, I think Moyes will switch to a front three with Rooney onto the wing, with Janujaz on the other side, Mata in behind and Carrick / Felliani / potentially a new signing sitting. Even after signing Mata I don't think United will be finished this transfer window.
