I expect Chelsea are hoping Mata will play well against City and Arsenal and take points of them in the race for top spot

Mourinhos playing the long game. Hes not stupid. Chelsea have played united twice in the league so Mata cant hurt them that way, united arent title or even top 3 contenders and Mata is a no 10, same as Rooney. Will Moyes be able to accomodate Rooney and Mata in the same team as each other playing centrally behind RVP? I think not. Rooney will be unsettled and leave, probably to Chelsea in the summer and Moyes will be able to let him go saying ' wer still a big club, look at Mata coming to us'

Or Mata changes their season and they finish fourth. Rooney stays because they can guarantee champions league football. And even if he were to leave in the summer, there's no guarantee he'll end up at Chelsea. Remember, Fergie never sold his best players to United's rivals. Even Wenger didn't sell his best players until they were past their peak. Mata still has his best years to come. The only acceptable outcome from this for Chelsea would be to get Rooney in return, nothing less.
And for what it's worth, I think Moyes will switch to a front three with Rooney onto the wing, with Janujaz on the other side, Mata in behind and Carrick / Felliani / potentially a new signing sitting. Even after signing Mata I don't think United will be finished this transfer window.

So, we're not the only cunts to get beat at home by Sunderland this season
At least we had 10 men and gave them a peno....even won the passing & posession I believe

Yup this. I dont think it makes good business sense at all to sell him to United.
