'Poor' Malky Mackay has been given the boot.
How long till:
1.) He turns up at West Brom (or Villa or West Ham)?
2.) Cardiff realise there's no-one but McLeish or Bryan Robson who is desperate enough? -

With all due respect to mackay he hasn't achieved much and found himself in a position most managers do just not publicly. He did a good job but let's not get carried away with sanctimonious bollox just because it's Xmas time. The same shit happens year in year out in football and people still sound surprised.

Every time a manager is treated unfairly, football fans speak out.
The same when di Matteo was sacked, when Benitez was mindlessly attacked by Chelsea fans, when Roy Keane was given positions of responsibility which were clearly far beyond his capabilities.
You're right, it's not a unique situation, but it is part of the decay of modern football which we're quite right to be moaning about often.

I think Mackay showed a lot of respect to Cardiff after signing a 3.5 year contract and turning down the offer from Norwich to be there manager (his ex-team and a premier league club). I think he hasn't shown to be a great manager but is more than deserving enough of Cardiff.
He might end up at West Brom but I doubt it, I think they'll be looking for a manager to take them up a level, something I don't believe Mackay capable of.
RDM and Zola double act at West Brom is more likely.

He'll end up at Leicester or Forest.

Good luck to him but there is this idea that in the golden days managers had an average of 10 yrs at a club and were treated well and players were all local lads who only played for one club. If you think football fans all come out in unity because of what you here on a radio phone in and read in the guardian then fair play to you.

I'm an Ipswich fan so I'm well aware that's not the case thanks. But stability and continuity at a club is vastly underrated, as is having a manager who at least pretends to care about the club and the area.
Town sacked former captain Jim Magilton for 'underachieving' in a year we finished 8th and just outside the play-offs. I remember him being booed when we drew at home, and the excitement which greeted the rumours that 'big name' Roy Keane was coming and the reception he got for his first game. He was never right for the club, he made some terrible transfer decisions (selling Jordan Rhodes for a pittance for one) and nearly took the club down.
The whole reckless ambition which is taking over football is what is making clubs change their shirt colours and add animals to their names at the expense of what a lot of fans actually want. And I'd say the ones who care the least are probably the ones most likely to be plastics in the first place.
That's why so many people admire Ian Holloway even though he's really a bit of a clown. At least he is realistic with the teams he brings up to the Premier League.

The whole reckless ambition which is taking over football ...
Mate where have you been for the last 100 yrs. admittedly it has been rampant since '91 but my point is that none of this is new. Get used to it.
We all welcome loyalty etc but you can't blame mercenaries either. Let's just ease up on the sympathy for guys earning millions of pounds who get sacked and treated disrespectfully for playing reality football manager.

And for your information many plastics are just people who know where to draw the line with football. I see it as show business and entertainment. If you want to give it all that heart breaking stuff about how much your club means to you then again, good luck

I think it's because I grew up watching Northwich Victoria, where you actually knew some of the players and could talk to the manager/owner. The club has since been run into the ground, had a historic stadium demolished and a new one repossessed, while I moved away and my attention moved to bigger clubs where this sort of thing is just as rife.
Since the team from my hometown, Chester FC, reformed as a fan-owned club, and after living in Germany and experiencing football and what it means there, I've come to realise that it can be better.
And for your information many plastics are just people who know where to draw the line with football. I see it as show business and entertainment. If you want to give it all that heart breaking stuff about how much your club means to you then again, good luck
Balls to that. What's the point in watching football or supporting a team at all if it's just business and entertainment? You may as well watch an ice hockey franchise somewhere. For some supporters it's still about passion, tradition, family ties, and where you're from. And I'd rather see that as the future of football rather than some kind of nostalgia. Why do you think more and more people are looking to the Bundesliga model in terms of both club ownership, ticket pricing and stadium design?

Reading this again, it is such a bitter and cynical sentence. I'm not going to apologise for being optimistic or idealistic.

11 v 11 we woulda pissed it. Getting your keeper sent off after 20mins then trying to break down 10 defenders after they scored the peno was always gonna be a massive task
Still we won the shots, corners and possession

I think the ongoing natural order of East Midlands clubs in the championship is the important story as we go into 2014
Apparently derby are going to have to start playing some top half teams next year...
