touchy
I don't get your Sahin reference, we got him on loan and it didn't work out
when we gutted our midfield of Alonso and Masch that's when we sold good players to a big club
-
• #85003
Hah, ok.
I should probably elaborate. Imo it's not necessarily a bad thing that bigger clubs come in for your players, especially not when you bought them for a fraction of their current asking price. As is the case with Modric, Bale, Carrick, Berba et al

Clubs our size are always going to sell players when a much bigger club comes in for them. We don't want to, but eventually will. When did Liverpool last sell a player to a bigger club? Sahin to Real, I'll give you that one. And don't give me a line about Liverpool being a big club. You're not.

But it is bad when your chairman hangs on to the last minute and prevents the manager from buying anyone to replace. Getting money is one thing, freeing up to buy assets in time, and without a premium, is another.

Arbeloa. Always struck me as getting more flak than he deserved during his time with us. I was sorry to see him go. -

I guess it must be hard to spot a quality player at Anfield these days. When there's actually one on the pitch they don't can't differentiate him from the rest of the donkeys in red.

We have quite a few quality players now thank you very much

piss poor trolling right there ^^

Poor old Kenny
Not that I would ever feel sorry for anyone. You make your own luck in this life but he seems to be in a bit of a state

He's not preventing anyone from buying anything. We rarely spend a lot on arrivals, so we don't need to sell to buy. We broke our transfer record twice this window with £17.5m and £26m purchases, which is hardly eye-watering amounts.
Goddammit, I've started posting in the football thread again. Curses.

But they'll be receiving the same premium on Bale by waiting and allowing Madrid to froth themselves into a frenzy over him.

my timing is as poor as your trolling jaw

Really? How many responses did I get in one minute? Must have touched a nerve, or two, perhaps even three.

Too many weapons on here today
Perhaps it's time to put this thread on ignore until Bale is sold, Suarez is sold or something exciting happens in between -

Like what Mike, Liverpool winning a trophy?

@chalfie, you would have a valid point, if we hadn't already made three purchases this transfer window already, one being the (fingers crossed) 20 goal a season striker we've been missing for the last couple, a box to box midfielder with more creativity and tactical nous to replace Parker, and a left sided winger to supplement our attacking.
Playing hardball and trying to exact the premium from Real for Bale isn't stupid as trying to get like for like replacements in the same transfer window when people know you have cash doesn't get you value for money. We've hopefully improved and if bale goes at the last minute or stays, we either have a truckload of money, plus a new player who takes time to bed in, or a disgruntled bale who has to knuckle down and play well enough to convince he wasn't a one season wonder and that he's good enough for real or a.n.other big team with deep pockets to come in for him.

is it time to start banging on again about the £ 750mn pound net spend ?
or should we wait until this transfer window has closed and see where you stand then ?
-
• #85023
Looking at the opening fixtures it's entirely possible that Liverpool could be top of the table by 3pm next Saturday.
-
• #85024
I doubt it

Let's wait a bit and then reopen the debate
