my point is the media talk up your chances and wax lyrical when you're a million miles away. what is the minimum gap you've had this season to a CL spot? 9 points?
Saying that I do have suarez, sturridge, and enrique in my fantasy team but i can see you drawing 2-2 tonight and losing 3-2 to swansea..
not both at home no...
Swansea is an interesting one, a week before the cup final, I doubt they'll risk anyone especially Michu getting injured. They win the cup and they get to europe... worth a potential 3 point loss

Getting slightly miffed at the constant questioning of whether Bale is to stay with us, I know this is football and contracts mean nothing when the money hits the table, but it seems disingenuous for a press pack who were sticking the knife into AVB and his management style, use of language and how much it hurt to be sacked by Chelsea, to now move swiftly from AVB better than we thought, to Bale who can we sell him on to.
No club wants to sell their best players, if we make it to the CL, I'm pretty sure Bale will stay, if our progression carries on, and we start looking like credible challengers for the league I think he'll stay, but the press need to check themselves, with the constant Madrid are offering big money for him, and the constant regurgitations of players and managers comparing him to Ronaldo.
He's good, but there's still space for him to grow, become more consistent, more effective, and there's no reason why he shouldn't/couldn't do that with the mighty spurs, if we continue our progress into the rarefied air of the top 4.
The only way we are going to be able to keep our best players is to offer them bigger wages, but that only comes from earning more matchday revenue, which comes from having a bigger stadium, which is still in limbo...
I'll be sorry to see Bale go, when he does go, but I think that won't be for a few seasons yet, and I'd hope he'd go over to europe rather than play over here for Utd or City or Chelsea. But it all comes down to money and I'd rather the press stopped getting their knickers in a twist of a will they won't they variety before the season's even finished about a player that is still under contract and has expressed no desire to leave...

^^
The kid is 23 and he has his head screwed on, recently had his first child and wants to play CL football.
He's already achieved that once at spurs and been much more successful in that one season than Man City have managed in two.
If he didn't have a long term contract and we were say 12 points of a CL spot it might be justified to talk of him leaving but for the time being i'd say his ambitions match our own.
A lot of people just don't like to see spurs do well..
I'm also going on Thursday btw. Best Valentines date ever with a piss head from work...

yarklad, always best to give romance a sharp slap to the face, and watch a big european match instead..
-
• #76006
He has his head screwed on? Is that why it looks such a poor fit?
Face it, Tottenham are a selling club. No real ambition or prospects.
-
• #76007
Well chelsea are definately a buying club...
-
• #76008
And a compensating one....
-
• #76009
As opposed to Chelsea - a buying club with no real strategy or prospects.
Face it Clive. Spurs best players are under 25. Chelsea's are over 35.

Clive, all clubs are selling clubs, when the price is right. Do you think if PSG or Real came in with a big money bid for Torres, that Chelsea would turn it down.
I'd prefer if we at Tottenham followed the Arsenal model, not of never challenging and placing all our chips on young players evolving enough to win something, but on making money through youngsters raised through the academy, who aren't good enough for the first team, but are still good enough to do a job for someone. Providing money to buy in older more experienced players who are good enough, but also to keep the academy ticking over so they can produce some talented homegrown youngsters to augment the first team.
you can't keep being a buying team, if you want to remain financially solvent, especially in the top half of the table, because wages and bonuses will break you, unless you are lucky/unlucky* (*delete as appropriate) to have an Abramovich who will spend and spend and spend, until they do not...
The press are running with a story that isn't much of one, as yarklad has mentioned, if we were out of contention for a champions league place, maybe they'd be some merit in it. Bale wants to test himself at the highest level as most players do, and if we can't provide that, then he'd look at his options, but if we do provide that, why would he want to leave, to go and warm the bench of a bigger club. Just look at the careers of young english players that have stifled on the bench at Chelsea, Wright Phillips, Sinclair, Parker, Sidwell, McEachran, Bertrand...
or for a more pertinent example Modric at Real, great for us, an appendix of a player for them.

Perhaps, if tottenham won something they'd keep their players.
-
• #76016
Or perhaps, players who shine at spurs are a bit like glass in dog shit.

• #76017
Sorry, who do you support again?

Chalfie's a die hard Forest fan. I think.

Talk about delusions of grandeur with you spuds. One swallow doesn't make a summer etc.
-
• #76020
I think Chelsea would be happy if anyone came on with £15m+ for Torres
-
• #76021
Who said we had delusions of grandeur?
-
• #76022
I think Chelsea would be happy if anyone came on with £15m+ for Torres
I think they would quite happily take £1.5 million
