He should have just said that "monkey" was an affectionate term where he comes from, apologised if he had given offence and the whole thing would have gone away. FWIW - I agree with your earlier sentiments regarding players having no right of reply against referees and any suggestion of abuse of players from referrees needs to be investigated and dealt with promptly.

I am not seeking to imply anything. It just seems that many "black British" players and former players were up in arms when a "black British" player was allegedly abused but are not now when a Nigerian player is abused. I was trying to understand what the difference was.
