mikec,
thats the usual british response, the director of football/technical director/general manager whatever you want to call it has worked successfully in european football, why wouldn't it work over here.
Clint, you'll love this, but look at West Brom, and Swansea as too examples over here, where you have this system to a certain extent in place, and you can see the solidity of organisation it can offer. And long term stability and success is what all teams crave isn't it.
Just because we've been in hock to the manager as auteur/deity doesn't mean that with the right people it won't be able to succeed, look at how Benitez got all control freaky, when he had total control of Liverpool and how you kind of rolled downhill as signings weren't made and if they were, they didn't settle/play up to their abilities.
I'm not saying its perfect, but with more continental managers being wooed, it seems that the days of dismissing it as something they do over there, that will never work here are soon to be gone..

Just going on what has happened in the past where I don't think it has ever worked successfully here has it?
Perhaps the British teams are set up inherently differently to those in other countries. -

I dunno, there was fergie and quieroz. I think ferg was deffo not the day to day coach. Definite double bill there.

Excellent, I really feel youth is getting more of a chance than it has in a long time at Liverpool.
Whether that's a better acadamy, a lack of senior players, or hopefully intention, I'm just glad to see it.
Wisdom and Suso back in the squad again, and hopefully a debut for Yesil as well.

Annoying it's not on TV.
I wonder if the Albion will be showing some dodgy feed. Do they do that sort of thing. Clint?

but Mike, english clubs have never tried it for any length of time, its only now with clubs being taken over by foreign owners that this "new" way of organising a club is being given a chance.
read this wiki and there are a couple of different types of directors of football, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Director_of_football
and no one over here has said this is what we do, and we'll continue to do this whoever is our manager. Closest is probably the David Dein/Arsene Wenger partnership, except Dein was on the board/Chairman at Arsenal. -

whispers quietly .... the telegraph online piece today
saying he's a hot prospect, did well in U14 and the new junior european league and has been given his call up -

There's much more to it than that with the purse strings being tightened and him not having total control.. he wanted total control

Ferguson and Queiroz/Steenkamp/McClaren is a good example of a field coach and manager who runs the games.
Real Madrid is not a good example of a technical director role as they'll pay over the odds for any player they want and it's always an ex player the use to occupy that position. Zidane is basically there to wow the new players.
