  • Ha!

  • did anyone hear the radio 5 programme last night about the best 11 post war players

they chose a squad of 11 from the last 75 years

the most amazing bit was they chose neville southall in goal ... well thats what i thought until they started bringing in the tales of how amazing southall was
pat nevin, sharpe and another evertonian melt were practicing taking shots from 20 yards out at southall
after half an hour or so the players just gave up having not scored against him in that time ... they were just rolling around laughing ..... because southall had only used his feet knees and his head to stop the shots
pingers heading for the top corner he used to dive full on and head them out they said he could perceive where the shots were heading before they were struck

sounds like an amazing bloke ... if a little fat

    Told ya

  • I don't give a fuck anyway, as soon as England are out I'll be fully supporting Ze Germans, anyway.

  • Seriously, can some-one please start a Euro's Thread but forewarn Hippy & Velocio

This place is shit boring at the moment

  • Whatever, it's all football.

  • Told ya

    knowfuckallcockneykopiteweapons

i think everyone thought he was a fat fuck, not just the kopites

  • Whatever, it's all football.

I haven't been interested in England since '90

Can someone PM me when all this Euro talk is over, thanks....see you next season!

  • That's the problem with football fans, especially England fans, expecting too much.

Only 1 team can win the tournament, and there are better teams than us.

Genius. People have won Nobel prizes for less.

What he should do is get a bunch of players together that show/have potential and get some big tournament experience and take this tournament as a learning curve. Get them to play together, getting used to new tactics and team mates and get a real thing going. There's proof that it works (Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and even Switzerland to an extent).

Short term vision is worse than no vision. Using the same core of players that the previous three managers failed with at qualifiers and major tournaments is a guarantee for failure. Let's hope I'm wrong but I somehow doubt it.

And yes I agree that expectations are way too high, by both fans and the press corps but surely after the mediocrity of the 2010 WC things must be more realistic now?

  • France will come up with a decent squad and finish top in the group. They're unbeaten for the last 10 games or so if memory serves me right.

Sure, doesn't matter that much if we finish first or second anyway, it's a tough game in the QF either way.

  • i think everyone thought he was a fat fuck, not just the kopites

Fat fuck after his playing days but THE best keeper in the world at one stage - FACT!

First ever keeper to win Player Of The Year

  • Moral of the story is, believe anything that pisti says.

lol I was going to post something similar
Shame he won't be back until August to offer us more insights

  • ....actually, just realised. I am the Thread Starter and I have 'the key to lock up shop'

    pondering face

  • You did that last time, and we just got it opened again anyway...

  • Go and start a Euro's Thread then FFS!

  • Stop moaning and bitching and put up with it, just like the rest of us.

  • There's always F1, Cricket, Softball, Rounders, Olympics and god know's what else to argue about. Maybe even some cycling.

  • Go and start a cycling thread >>>>>>>>>>

I started the very first football thread on the forum. Can I lose some of my forum plastic status now?

  • pwnd!

  • Q - Bobbo posting in the moderator/mergatron thread to get the three threads merged.

  • If you think the England squad is a joke, you should have a look at the Holland one.

    Provisional Netherlands squad
Goalkeepers: Tim Krul (Newcastle United FC), Maarten Stekelenburg (AS Roma), Michel Vorm (Swansea City AFC).

Defenders: Vurnon Anita (AFC Ajax), Khalid Boulahrouz (VfB Stuttgart), Wilfred Bouma (PSV Eindhoven), John Heitinga (Everton FC), Joris Mathijsen (Málaga CF), Ron Vlaar (Feyenoord), Gregory van der Wiel (AFC Ajax), Jetro Willems (PSV Eindhoven).

Midfielders: Mark van Bommel (AC Milan), Nigel de Jong (Manchester City FC), Siem de Jong (AFC Ajax), Adam Maher (AZ Alkmaar), Stijn Schaars (Sporting Clube de Portugal), Wesley Sneijder (FC Internazionale Milano), Kevin Strootman (PSV Eindhoven), Rafael van der Vaart (Tottenham Hotspur FC)

Forwards: Ibrahim Afellay (FC Barcelona), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (FC Schalke 04), Luuk de Jong (FC Twente), Dirk Kuyt (Liverpool FC), Jeremain Lens (PSV Eindhoven), Luciano Narsingh (sc Heerenveen), **Robin van Persie **(Arsenal FC), Arjen Robben (FC Bayern München).

Dirk Kuyt has even made the cut. Don't even get me started about the likes of Bouma and Bouhlarouz (the only good thing he did was the assault on C Ronaldo). Van Bommel is in the squad as well, purely because of his father in law.

Defence is an issue. . other than that those forward playing will be styling all over the tournament. Should be a great team to watch

  • Here we go helmets:

Nice one. Hope it doesn't get merged.

We should be allowed a separate thread for European tournaments.

  • It sure is. Midfield might as well be an issue if vd Vaart plays, he's the most indisciplined midfielder in the selection, just as well van Marwijk doesn't like him all that much, he hardly ever plays 90 minutes. Goalies are fine, probably 2 of the better GK's of the PL and defence is the real worry, van der Wiel, Mathijsen, Heitinga and it looks like little Anita on LB is hardly going to worry the Germans.
