Confession time... I like Ray Wilkins as a pundit. I like his relentless optimism. I like how he can be positive about clubs other than his "own". He comes across as genuine. He has (until recently) been an influence in the game and is not an ex-player living off their reputation, repeating the same tired shit over and over again (Lawrenson, Hansen). He does (as they all do) come out with some nonsense but nothing in the league of Gullit. Redknapp and Yorke are both retards. Ray is worth watching, FACT.

My favourite is Steve Claridge on 5 Live.
He always has something relevant to say and comes across like he knows the game, despite not being one of these mega stars. He also doesn't take himself too seriously. But it's well documented that I know very little, so I'm probably wrong.

Wilkins was doing commentary on the Napoli v City game from the stands. His face bereft of studio makeup in HD was horrifying.

Alan Smith is boring as fuck, and is always, ALWAYS, always, the pundit on spurs games, no matter who we are playing. This in and of itself sickens me, and his lack of analysis just confirms for me he's a nobbin.

Jim Beglin, seems to believe keepers should save everything, and all players should have scored that. He is a fact free, humourless model for players with mediocre talent, yet playing on successful sides, make even worse pundits...

I like Mark Bright, though he sometimes gets so tongue tied, looking for the right word, expression, phrase, that he sounds garbled. But he does have some insightful views on the action at hand.

I've a couple of Chelsea games this season with Ray and he's been nothing but positive about them, especially the youth. He was raving about Sturridge. I thought to myself, that's a decent bloke, considering his dismissal.
