Waste of talent != career ruined by injury. thats a bit harsh on a few players. Cole, Bentley, Mutu and Shevchenko all had the talent and no excuse other than piss poor attitude..
Tevez???
Rooney will always be fighting his build and will one day be one of the best attacking midfielders in the country, in a year or so he will loose his pace and threat. Arshavin is out of position but take out the world cup and he wasn't ever prolific..Amazed Walcott isn't on there, and Pennant. not to mention Beatie, Adebayor..
Le Tissier

Le Tissier
Good example, an outrageously talented player who liked being a big fish in a small pond, but who could've achieved so much more if he'd been playing in a team with players closer to his level.

I've just read that Liverpool are trying to come in for David Villa!!!!
That would be amazing if it came off...

34 mil apparently, he's a little old but would be an amazing thing if it happened
it came from caughtoffside though, so I doubt there's much to it other than Kenny saying he wants another striker

It's not that crazy that he'd be off.
Both Cesc and Sanchez are above him in the pecking. Pedro's just loads better than him.
Liverpool doesn't seem like the best match up, and his name is far greater than his skill too.

This is what surprises me, he's not a Fenway type signing.

Barca won't get rid of Villa, he's having a slightly below par season thus far, and there are rumblings about him being unhappy with Messi, but probably just a bit of handbags. His value to Barca is that he gives them back some of what E'too gave them, someone to run, and harry, and be the point man when a more orthodox center forward is required but who can also drop deeper, or play as the wide man in a front three.
Barca need more options, not less, and Pedro can't be played as an out and out striker, in that, though the front three are interchangeable, he's more of a winger who can strike, than a striker who can wing, if you see what I'm getting at. And sanchez hasn't shown much form so far this season to warrant displacing Villa, who will run hard every game, can score tap in's and the spectacular, and can hold up the ball and play the tiki-taka thing as well as any graduate from La Masia..

Sanchez's been injured a lot this season already.
Villa's main problem is that he doesn't want to play out wide. Everyone's been playing like crap up front apart from Messi and Cesc. Sanchez will come good, as will Pedro again. Villa's ego may not allow him to come back into that team, especially when all the others are happy to play as pivots to Messi.
Messi's no longer out wide, he wants to be in the middle.
Compare that to what Real are doing with Ronaldo, Higuan and Benzema and you can see why people are already handing the trophy to them. They're a lot more dynamic (currently) and more powerful too. They can all score from outside the box.

£34m for a striker who's pretty good as opposed to £35m for one who isn't ?

Barca's problem is too many options, and too many players you can't leave out. And everyone apart from Pedro and Danny Alves wanting to play through the middle.
It's a long season and everyone will get their chance to shine. And Villa plays best as the central striker, I'm assuming he will continue to play there, maybe despite Messi's desire to be there.Madrid now have the luxury of two fit center forwards who don't need to play out wide, because you have Ronaldo and Di Maria already there. And that's how Mourinho wants to play.
1st Classico of the season will be interesting to see how the newly confident Madrid deal with a slightly out of sorts Barca..

I hate Di Maria. He's so predictable and single footed. God knows how he got where he is.

I think Di Maria is injured right now, and Madrid are a much better team when he's on the pitch.
He may be single footed, but its a devastating foot.. -
• #43598
meh, I just always hate people who continually cut inside. I like it when wingers drive to the byline.
Yes he has a great shot on him, but it's just my preference...
I'm not comparing Spurs to Madrid in any way, but when Lennon and Bale swap wings they run very different lines. Lennons goal on Sunday a prime example. Cutting in can be great, but it often comes to not a lot, and if you're inverting your wing, you should be able to at least sort of cross with the other foot.

one is 30 in a couple of weeks, one is 22.
Which one is better now? Villa
Which one is going to be worth more in 5 years time? Carroll
That's what the Fenway method is all about, not buying for short term success.

Which one has won pretty much every major competition including the world cup?
rewind. the great thing about No.3 on the ZZ tape is that he blazes it over the bar. Like Pele before him he understood the art of highlighting a skill by not overshadowing it with a goal. For some of us hitting the woodwork and listening to the thud and watching the ball ricochet away is often more beautiful than seeing the net ripple. Class act ZZ
