I thought the same re:Anzhi, but it seems that their footballing plan is a little different, mixing players and coaches specifically from the area, with particular footballers who believe in the project, of creating a footballing dynasty in Russia. Sure the money has something to do with it, but that's no different to the middle east money, american money. After all Money is only a certain motivation (X theory workers) according to McGregor's taxonmy of workforce.
dzsudzsak was one of the hottest transfer targets this close season, had won dutch footballer of the year 2 seasons in a row, and is young. Similarly Zhirkov wasn't picking up bad wages at Chelsea and had offers from the other big clubs in Russia. Yes eto'os wage packet is enormous (and basically zero tax) but he still is one of the top 5 strikers in the world and something more than money must attract him to the club.
Goal.com did a decent write upon them this last week.

That's what Nike said they paid him but he never admitted to it and was then contacted by the IRS. Very messy from all accounts.

Wasn't Michael Jordan on something like $30m a year, 15yrs ago
That's still less than £20M a year, either way though I just got that stat from some article.

Minus expenses like hotel rooms and gifts and you are looking at one fat overdraft

That's no way to talk about Pistanator.

They'll all be off soon to Anzhi Makhachkala, the new kids on the silly-money block.
A team that has to pay so much because they are based in a region so dangerous that the players live and train over 1000 miles away in Moscow, and only go there to play home games.
They've already got Roberto Carlos, and are supposedly signing Eto'o, paying him £20M a year, making him the best payed sportsperson in history.
That is absolutely nothing for them to brag about.

so how exactly will the new financial ruling benefit anybody but the biggest clubs? basic economics would probably mean that small clubs will forever have to live within their money generating capacity no matter if a rich fan / business man wanted to give them tons of money. Then we really would be stuck in a boring world. Am I missing something?

also what happened to Carlos after he walked off the pitch in disgust at racism. I thought he did a great thing by just walking off during the game, equally as powerful a message as playing on and ignoring it.

^Don't really care.
On to more important things - 5th in the table after 3 games. Quite respectable in the grand scheme of things. Wonder if I'll be saying that after 10 games?
-
• #38893
If you come here saying 5th after 3 games when you have played 10 games you will be pulled up on a clear numerical issue

It only applies to clubs in european competitions.
So if you can accept not being in Europe for a couple of years then you can do what you want.

Yeah! I can't believe it myself, just hope it's not an early repeat of our good form last season that turned sour when fielding finished his initial loan.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/aug/18/redknapp-modric-sale-tottenham
and 'Arry says he's not a wheeler dealer. For the money he'd get for Modric, he'd get three or four players of the same class as the one's he's trying to shift. So we'd be no better off. No point in having a deep squad if none of those players can change a game, or aren't one of his favourites so won't be seeing the first eleven anytime soon...
It's as if he doesn't see that he's got to get rid to get in. And if Palacios, Bentley, Hutton, Jenas, Crouch don't want to go, he's going to have to make do and get the best out of them...
No to selling Modric. No I say...

Cole couldn't score in a brothel. Championship player at his best - he scored the other night. A clear demonstration that he's currently at his level. Not good enough for the prem. Rather like Anton Ferdinand or Nigel Mediocre.
