oh right.
I think Redknapp can sometimes be a bit slow to identify issues, he also get his tactics wrong. There's lots of square pegging going on. For Example, when Bale was injured, Niko should have been played straight away, or even Danny Rose, however he always opts to get his favourites on the pitch.
He's never taken to getting on a step ladder and clipping crouch around the ear hole to tell him to stop giving away fouls in the final third of the pitch. He's never sent him to the gym so that he can put some power behind the ball either.
He's always slow at bringing in young players, and doing it right. He'd rather chuck the cheque book at it. Any young player that has emerged has been due to injuries. I don't think he's got the best team of coaches around him. They're a bit of a motley crew.
He's hugely lacking ambition now, and he's always covering his arse. on Sunday he said that Spurs weren't in the top 5. That's not what anyone wants to hear come the start of the season. I think the lack of courage / confidence shows even more as a player. These clearly troubled Modric, and it's being identified by transfer targets too. He's already saying I doubt we'll get a Europa league spot. why would Vucinic or Llorente or whoever else agree to that.
I'm not trying to say that I could do a better job, but I do think someone else could do a better job than Harry.
Jol was only a Lasagne away from getting Spurs into the Champions League, that was two 5th place finishes. Then Ramos, and we all know what happened there. Redknapp walked into a well constructed squad and got them achieving they level they should. I know someone out there could get them working harder, pushing further, and above all believing in themselves more.
And get rid of Jenas.

Kyle Walker, he has a great loan spell with QPR reports back to Spurs lodge, Warnock's screaming to get him back.
Charlie and Hutton are being rotated by who's been less of a donkey / not injured.
What does Harry do, ships Walker out to AV for the rest of the season, starts playing Kaboul at RB, Gallas starts struggling with knocks, and the whole defence is stretched. it's all a mess, and Walker's playing a blinder week in week out for Clints mates at Villa Park. Bassong gets the hump. he's not even gone out on loan, but harry wont play him.

Spurs Chelsea, with the Sandro wonder goal. Spurs are playing great, Chelsea are on the ropes, we're ready to put them to the sword.
Harry's not taking his chances though. Everyone get back, park the bus we can't beat Chelsea like this.
Lampard levels up just before half time as they push further up the pitch and dish out loads of pressure.
Kalou gets the winner in the second half.

that's more like it.
so you've got a manager wringing the best out of a squad that contains very few players that could be considered top four. He makes mistakes but still delivers the best couple of seasons you have had since black and white tv. Imagine being a Spurs player, staff member and turning up to the lane to play games and hearing you lot in the stands giving it the big one after the last two seasons. and you blame Harry for not bigging up the team! As for the youth squad approach, any manager that relies on a youth policy to bring success is committing suicide. Youth policies are a bit of a myth. invest lots of money in players that probably won't make it or buy players that have proven it. a no brainer. you can count the times youth policies have benefitted teams on one hand. Fergie got lucky with the Beckham crew. A once in a lifetime fluke. -

that's where the difference of opinion is I think. I think the lowest Spurs could come would be sixth with the depth in quality of the squad, but that's not to say that, with a strong striker, Spurs could come anywhere above that. I won't go as far as saying winning the league, but anything's possible.
Without the draws, or the teams beginning with "W" who-do Spurs would have finished a lot higher.
You never know, maybe Defoe will find form again and hammer in the goals. Maybe VdV will be able to last 90 minutes after a good pre-season. I'm not in the "we're screwed because we haven't bought anyone" camp, but I'm certainly not "in Harry we Trust".
I always want the best for my team, and I know we can get a little bit better.

utd fans could probably moan about some of fergies tactics, god knows arsenal fans have plenty to moan about with wenger. chelsea fans could have slated ancelloti last season and equally mancini at City. Alas they didn't and don't very often because they understand the bigger picture. Your moaning makes you sound like a newcastle fan of old

Clint, I think you over value Redknapp's achievements.
He took over a good squad, with good players underachieving, and got them to play football, cohesively. which is to his credit, but all that Winters has stated remain true.
We were good enough with the spine of that team under Jol to be top 5, slumped under Ramos and now Redknapp got us into the Champions League. But the worries that any fan has about their managers competency when the next step has to be taken and glaring deficiencies aren't sorted means that Harry is going to come in for flak.
I also think he's taken us as far as he can. To get higher we need a bit more nous, and a plan b, and coaches who are willing to get the players (all of them) playing stylish attacking football, with no favourites or anyone protected if they don't produce the goods, and the youngsters to be blooded, with space being made for them if they are good enough.
All our striking enquiries are being rebuffed, rossi, is staying at villareal until they get a big money bid, vucinic has just gone to juve, llorente is still in the wind. Mata wants to go to Arsenal. And we're still trying to sell on, to trim the wage bill and get the money together to buy new players in...
I think the board got scared when Juande Ramos didn't settle and we didn't make the big push to get into the Champions League and went back to the good old english values, represented by 'Arry.
Personally I'd like us to go out and get a good young manager with a bit of drive and an attacking footballing philosophy. I was trying to think of some up and coming english managers, and got this forum thread. Who are the up and coming managers in World football? - The Dugout Football Manager Community
And they threw up some interesting non english names such as Michael Laudrup at Malaga, Vincenzo Montella over at Roma, Unai Emery at Valencia, and Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund.
Also some names for managers in england, Gus Poyet, Paul Lambert, and Owen Coyle.
this is make or break for Redknapp and probably for this team as currently situated, so he needs to stop underplaying what we can achieve as he tries to instill that underdog mentality, and to push the team on in terms of tactics and squad rotation so we can make a genuine title challenge and aim for that fourth spot..

corny what will probably happen is this - the fans get on at harry, he leaves you appoint another decent manager there is no long term improvement you fall away to a 10th to 7th place team desperate to qualify for the europa thingy with west brom.

if i was a spurs fan i'd be enjoying this successful window while it lasts not moaning under the pretnce that '..we have to push on! I only want the best for my team.' get real.

None of these managers poopooh their chances before the league has even started, and none of those managers have ever referred to the fans as "them" or called them "idiots".
I wouldn't have gone on a massive moan if you hadn't asked.

I think the difference here is that west brom really got a great Manager when they got Hodgson, and it's clear to see how he's pushed the team on.
you've got that young chap Cox, and Odemwengie played a blinder.
Before Hodgson, you had Di Matteo, who made big improvements including promotion, no? I like west Brom.
It's all perspective at the end of the day.
Above all else, I think Redknapp playing wingers will always make my heart skip, and I do love the way Spurs play the game. I wouldn't want them to play like Man City, or anyone else. Harry Redknapp does identify what the fans want.
If there's something higher to aim for, I think you should go for it, and that goes for any time, in any position.

• #37763
there are plenty of west brom fans ready to moan about things all the time. they tend to be the younger ones who seem to forget the bad days of the 80's and 90's.
for me spurs had the most exciting season of all the clubs until the faltering last few games. up until then it was gripping. I hope england appoint harry and we adopt a similar style of play -

Cornie, 14 what do you expect from the spuds this season? We all agree last year was a one off, I mean even Leeds took a holiday in Europe. But what would you be happy with?

I always had Tony Pulis down as a sensible manager, that is, until he got linked in the papers with a £9M bid for Bendtner.

Dalglish is worth a punt at 50/1
I'll say!
Apparently, The Yanks have laid down the gauntlet saying he has to finish 4th.
According to The Daily Mail, which I obviously don't read -
• #37774
anything would be pure speculation.
As things are 5th again most likely.
I don't think Liverpool have got the back bone to deal with the pressure this year. As I was writing this, Mike's pointed out the heat's on Kenny already.

• #37775
Liverpool's downfall this season will be the defence
They demanded Kinky Kenny, they got him
They demanded money, they got it
They demanded English players, they got them
Careful what you wish for, helmets!
coughs
Replace Crouch and Defoe with proper footballers.
