  • understand all of that, and partially agree.
But I think we're all of the opinion that going abroad, working abroad is a good thing.
So for whatever level of football they will eventually rise/fall to, going out on loan, taking a transfer to a foreign team, is good for young footballers.

I don't think players outside of the premier league/championship are getting transfers out to foreign leagues. young players from premier league teams are going on loans abroad, and starting to transfer abroad, but your league one and league two prospects aren't. don't quote me on that, I do not have the stats to back this up, purely anecdotal..

  • I completely agree that people should broaden their horizons.
If a player makes a misstep at 16-24 it's really difficult to get back on track.
    Look at players being injured.

I think asking kids to potentially miss out on mega wages (because the difference between being raheem and Daniel isn't that great at 15-21) just because we think moving and responding to a stressful situation is good for you isn't quite right.

So, if there are any kids or young adults or football industry types reading this....

  • South Africa from 0-4
    Surrey from 4-8
    Netherlands 8-19
    Australia 19-21
    London/Sussex 21-23
    Spain/South Africa 23-26
    London 26-36
    UAE 36-39
    Singapore currently.

No idea where home is right now.

  • I am seriously thinking about playing Pro football in China

  • Fair play to Burton Albion.......................

  • Me, gone to see where you were born. Broaden horizons, shorting Stearling, always fancied dragon boating. I’m committed until at least the end of 2020.

  • how you finding HK? im enjoying it but miss London for museums, art and pubs proper pubs.
as this is the football Thread if u fancy an easy game of 5 aside let me know play every weds in Sai Ying Pun.

  • thinking of loans outside of the feeder club system, which I'm assuming for chelsea only exist to get round the issues of getting UK work permits for young players from the EU/Rest of the world.

Not sure where your assumption comes from. Chelsea’s academy is largely English. Loans are used to bring in players after the academy. Many loans are to European clubs. Vitesse has seen more than most but is not unique.

  • Missing gigs and standup, musicals and theatre. Not missing the weather or the agro attitudes of people in general. I’m in Stanley so I have a couple of bars which resemble pubs.

  • Best hemisphere... I couldn't go back to London weather, Galician weather at a push, maybe, but fuck London...

  • Ok, most agents lack a bit of subtlety but this (if genuine) takes the biscuit.
I love the "...They paid peanuts..... the offer is nearly double what they paid."
    What is 2 x peanuts?

  • Best hemisphere

    Dude, do you even geography?

  • Oh fuck... Alright, but only just!

Fact check edit: What? Almost sub-tropical, my geography is fucking terrible TBH... Well done anyway!

  • So after the distance rules fall away at 16, Chelsea’s academy becomes a place to stash promising overseas players in various teams around Europe?

  • What’s the cx scene like?

  • I can confidently say that I’m one of the best cx riders in the area and I didn’t bring my bike with me.

I joined a dragon boat team for general fitness and I’m going to try out a few water sports, there’s some good windsurfing near my flat and I have my paddle board with me to twat about on.

  • A few mates of mine were out in China for a dragon boat thing recently, they're all punk rock people and absolutely nuts about it... I can't see the appeal, personally, but there you go...

  • I’m going to try out a few water sports

    PM'd...

  • What does spurs academy look like?
    Where do they end up?

  • Where’s Karanka off to then?

  • The appeal for me is that it’s a team sport five minutes from where I live with all costs paid by the sponsor. Keep fit, get a social group, don’t have to make any special effort to get there.

  • Didn't even know he was there. How did he get on?

  • Where’s Karanka off to then?

I expect Jose has been on the blower.

We've been strongly linked with Jardim and Jokanovic recently. Either would be exciting.

  • Have no idea, will have a quick google, but the names of the u21 players who are on the verge of first team action, Pochettino is keeping an eye on, that I am aware of, are usually english/north london/herts area, we've poached a couple from other academies, but most seem to be homegrown.

edit: Spurs helpfully keep the youth teams on their website, more searching required for players out on loan..

    pertinent location quote
"Some of Spurs’ rivals recruit from far and wide, but almost all of their second string are English and the vast majority of their Under-23s are from the A10 corridor that stretches from White Hart Lane to north Hertfordshire: Spursland. They come from Hackney and Hertford, Enfield and Cheshunt, Borehamwood and Winchmore Hill. Goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman even grew up a short walk from White Hart Lane. These are local lads coming through the system at a Premier League club."
