  • Know I’m going to sound like a levy apologist but new stadium despite the cheese stations and the craft beer and the ability to watch players getting hyped in the tunnel before the match, is supposed to be all about putting fans as close to the action as possible.
From the articles I’ve read about it, Levy is obsessed with getting fans as close to the action as possible and making sure the atmosphere is good/great inside the stadium.

Yeah it’ll be used for multiple events, not related to football, but it’s a football stadium first and foremost and fingers crossed, watching the match won’t be as fucked up as the West Ham/london stadium fiasco.

  • Watched someone getting CPR on the pitch down at our 5-a-side league (it was in the game after ours, same league - we played them 4 weeks ago). Multiple ambulances in attendance and the Air ambulance was being called in.

    Hope he pulls through.

  • Looking forward to asking the same questions of chelsea’s support when you spend your time in Wembley waiting for Stamford bridge to be rebuilt..

I’m under no illusion that it’ll be anything other than a shit show. Twickenham was the clubs first choice of temporary venue iirc.

  • Ugh.
    That's horrible.
    Hope it works out.
    Are you alright?

  • Guys, no one cares...

  • blimey hope the blokes ok and your ok not a nice thing to see.

there was great article that @jonny posted a while back about the playing 5aside and knowing the people you play with just in that 5 a side space and the friendships with in that.
i was looking for it the other day, great piece.

  • I'm ok, I've sadly seen it before a few times so it doesn't hit me as hard as it did the first few times, bit of a lump in my throat when I told my wife about it this morning but that's because I hadn't really spoken to anyone else until then.

I've been playing in that league for 17 years and seen all sorts but seeing that on the pitch is a first, and I hope, last. Hoping for a positive outcome.

  • This is also well worth a read:-

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Above-Head-Height-Five-Side/dp/1786481766

Some of the descriptions of the different types of 5-a-side player ring very true.

That and the notion that you can play football with/against some people for 15+ years and still don't know their surnames, their real first names, whether they've got families or, in the case of some people, anything about them at all.

  • My dad occasionally trots out the story of playing in a team with Jimi Hendrix's manager every Saturday for a couple of years. Had no idea until he saw his death reported in the paper...

  • that was what the one jonny posted was all about, dispite not knowing much more than a nickname first name there is a friendship in that hour or so of running about !

thanks for the link will checkit out in need of a new read.

  • Chas Chandler? Nasty business, hope he's OK...

  • Callum Best had a team in the league for one 10 week season with a load of old school mates and some ex A-League/semi-pros thrown in to try and set him up all the time.

They won all but one of their games and if one of our players hadn't blazed his penalty (for someone going into the area) over the bar with the last kick of the game we would have been the only team to beat them.

He was ok-ish at football, but built like an absolute brick shithouse, I got him sin-binned twice. Annoyingly he wasn't as much of a twat as I expected/wanted him to be.

I've played with an ex Premiership player too (who stopped playing years ago and ended up working in IT). No pace at all but didn't need it. Just sauntered around the pitch knowing exactly where to be and exactly where to pass to.

  • Is that James "Loaded" Brown?
It's typical "man" behaviour isn't it? You/we/they compartmentalize how you know people.

    @Greenbank hugz

  • Callum Best motorboated Mrs Hammer at some point before we met - she said he was a massive twat. /csb

  • Just sauntered around the pitch knowing exactly where to be and exactly where to pass to.

I dream of playing like this.

  • Looking forward to the Arsenal game on Saturday. Games between these two teams have traditionally been full of goals and played in the right spirit. Hoping that deliberately getting knocked out of the Mickey Mouse cup will pay dividends come Saturday as Arsenal have a game on a cold midweek night. Let's see

  • I see Timi Max Elsnik scored a couple in this game. I'm hoping he's developing well at Mansfield because he is highly thought of by some Derby fans who expected him to push for the first team soon.

  • v much this

" i dream of playing like this."

  • @WornCleat you going to the match tonight? I'm taking some mates from the office. Managed to get away tickets before we sold out.

  • Yes, he looked good and I was surprised he was only 20.

To be honest though, while he took his goals well, he didn't stand out head and shoulders above the rest of the team. The Mansfield back line were probably the most impressive players. But I think that says more about their overall strength as a team. I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the playoffs at the end of the year.

  • Bugger, email from the league, the bloke didn't make it.

    #rip

  • Oh man.

  • Poor guy and family. It's horrible when it happens somewhere so public.

It happened on the pitches in Walthamstow while we were training at the stadium a few weeks back. Our coach tried to help and was really shaken by it and by how poor the other players' attempts at CPR were. This guy also didn't make it.

At least they died relatively quickly, while doing something they presumably really enjoyed, surrounded by team mates. It's never nice but there would be worse ways to go.

  • Should be a belter. I hope recent results are right in suggesting Liverpool have finally clicked this season but Cardiff/Red Star are pony.

  • Yup. Odd crowd tonight. Season tickets don’t apply and very cheap tickets.

Who the fuck is Fatfrank Lampard?
