Until this weekend, none of us knew the names of any Egyptian lawyers. Now we know one. I think that is all he is intending to achieve.

Can we all be clear that Real Madrid are one of the most ghastly teams anywhere in the world. Build on subsidies from Franco, a man under-rated in terms of nastiness as a dictator, and made into the richest club in Europe by him and successive governmental intervention. I have just heard the suggestion that Karius was paid to lose the match.

This got me to thinking: how much money would one need to pay to have a keeper in Karius' position deliberaately to lose such a match and who would pay such an amount of money given that Real Madrid were odds on to win in any event?

Karius is presumably on decent money already and therefore would need a relatively large sum for it to make a difference, added to which, he is unlikely to win a Champions League ever again (unlikely as in statistically improbable). His reputation and his potential future earnings from winning a Champions League must surely be great and valuable. So how much would it take to get a man in his position to throw a game he was likely to lose anyway?
