  • @middleofnowhere

He made a lot of disparaging remarks typically calling it the city of self pity. (There were some great truths in some of what he said). As I said I felt like the lone voice here when many chose to stick the boot in beyond distastefully repeatedly. I guess this external action -whilst feeling unfair to us that know and love Clive- will FORCE others to check their comments for future reference....hopefully...la.

  • I said some things that were unfair which I now regret.

  • Er. While you're having your love in with Graham, I have a vague recollection of comments from him about the city. Is it OK to put the boot in if you're from there? What about slagging off Liverpool FC as murderers?

    Unsure of Sydenham.

  • When they saw the clip they were probably ready to accept the apology for it being a one off, just a case of being fired up after a match. Then the DotW blog posts were linked, and the same excuse doesn't work for the contents of those. One person's tongue-in-cheek is another person's vitriol.

  • Sorry to hear Clive's ex-employers are such a spineless bunch. Although I've known people to get sacked for emailing a joke that offended a customer of the company they worked for before so it doesn't surprise me. Stuff going viral really amplifies indignation.

Come back to the fold Clive, Chelsea fans have got your back. Might be an idea to post under a new name while the job seeking goes on though.

  • Not entirely sure if I referred to the inhabitants as murderers. "Thieving cunts" was my expression, iirc.

My opinion was based purely on personal experience, but it was rather on the sweepeing side.

  • It would do Clive no harm to actually go and visit Liverpool for a few days and mix with the 'scum, those horrible Scouse people'

I've noticed massive changes in people's attitudes over the last few years when meeting and seeing none Scousers on the train back & forth, in pubs restaurants, museums and all the other numerous attractions. The trains are always packed with 'Southerners' and they have all had a fantastic visit to a now fantastic city. Virgin must be making a killing as 10yrs ago they were less than half full, the 2008 Capital of Culture award did great things and really put the place back on the map.
Everyone I discuss Liverpool with nowadays, they all say what a great place it is and what a cool city it is, what a great time they had. My boss(a Chelsea ST holder funnily enough) had his stag do there a few years ago. It's now the #1 stag do city of choice in the UK. I took a young posh kid from work up there for 2 days a short while ago, never been North of Watford and we both had a wicked time...

Having left Liverpool in '87 I'll happily admit the place was a tough, rundown city. I hated leaving but looking back my Mum & Dad did it for the right reasons and I thank them for that, I have no reason to ever go back and live there BUT it's people's attitudes that have changed, definitely in the last 5/6yrs or so.
I had the piss ripped out of me for years, my accent, my style of dress, my family, all the shit you'd expect and still get. Almost made to feel like a 2nd class citizen. I've always had tough skin and ignored or learnt to deal with it but what I've seen recently is a sense of pride coming back to Scousers, proud of who they are and proud of their city.
Fuck me, I've even heard Manc's say they love the place!!

  • People still take the piss out of the way you dress...

  • Steady now.

  • will FORCE others to check their comments for future reference….hopefully...la.

So at least Clive's sacrifice wasn't in vain. I always thought and knew that he was a Saint surrounded by so many good people.

  • ^^^ Give it a couple of years, it'll be all the rage in the colonies.

  • *insert shell suit gag

  • But that would be racist in our new caring, sharing footie thread...

hahaha your boss just signed up to lfgss?

Apology accepted [though I don't feel like I deserve it TBH. I just hope you're able to resolve your unfortunate experience up there to the point you haven't tarred everyone associated there.]

  • You sure it's not like this any more? Shame.

You beat me to it! Grrr. Go back again I called him on it. There is only so much I can do- though you were at times one of the few voices that went against the current.

    Gags on pisti's shell suit.

  • Didn't even happen up there. Got robbed on holiday two years on the bounce...

  • Thank you for that. I knew Dietrich Weise but not his part in winning two world cups - turning right footed Hölzenbein into a left winger and making sure a system was in place to discover Kroos in the sticks.

  • With now ex DFB president Niersbach who quit today, on his Eighties birthday last year.
