I appreciate this is not from the Guardian, but it's an interesting read nonetheless, especially what he says about Spurs;

Paul Scholes is a legend... I wonder if he writes those columns himself or if they're ghosted? He talks a lot of sense...
And he didn't say MoPo...
-
• #115187
I think they're ghosted. They seem to capture the way he might talk.

@andyp, good article, shortened version of that just focusing on the attacking ethos of Utd under Ferguson made it's way onto the Guardian. Praise for Mau Mau is good too, being aware of the youngsters coming up through the ranks is part of a managers job, yeah you have youth team coaches who can point out a kid whose special, but managers have to be looking at it with their own eyes, as they are the final arbiter of whether to bring them up into the first team reckoning/ send them out on loan for a bit more experience or if they won't make it with us at all...
As said previously, am truly optimistic about the next couple of seasons under Pochettino, thought the Chelsea win was a bit of a fluke, especially when we lost to Palace straight after, but then the way we played against Arsenal and since shows we're growing as a team, gaining confidence in how the manager wants us to play and players are starting to show some of the form that caused us to buy them in the first place. Lamela's starting to come good, Dembele looks more vital playing in the center of the three behind the striker, we just need Paulinho, Soldado and Capoue to brighten up and we'll be all good....

@andyp, good article, really good article.
Read somewhere that lots of foreign coaches fancy their chances in england whether it's in the Premier League of Championship as we obviously have a shit load of money at this point in time, and that they believe that the quality of coaching is lower here than in the rest of europe so they can out manage their english rivals.
And with England/UK having the lowest number of coaches with Uefa Pro Licences, I wouldn't bet against them, we've got hundreds where Spain/Germany/Italy are into the high thousands...

Or you could say that while The Rest of The World have lots of people who think they can do a job, UK plc residents are more realistic and understand the demands and expectations of UK plc football managers better. Therefore, only those most suited and capable apply and complete their Pro Licence.

@Chalfie, when I quote your name it comes with the uppercase C,
what I see is coaching and being taught to coach as being valued abroad, more so than over here. Coaching is a profession, and a career, whether you were a successful player, journeyman, or never played past the school team.
English football values experience over qualifications, on the job learning over being taught in a classroom.
The fact that foreign managers come over here, succeed and fail, and that we export so few that its news whatever they do, tells its own story.. -

That's making me come over all patriotic like

• #115195
And so it should come with a capital C.
I agree with you. But I'm saying. ONLY THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THE BEST apply for the positions.
Look.
Roy Keane
Ryan Giggs
Robbie Savage

@Chalfie, think we are talking at cross purposes, but the best managers don't come from being he best players, and we (UK Football PLC) should be looking to get as many as are interested doing their coaching badges, to raise the quality of coaching in this country and the footballers that they subsequently produce.

Carroll to miss rest of the season. Looks like CaCo will need to step up again!
-
• #115198
@fly just came here to post that, hope @bodieanddoyle wasn't expecting him to play until the end of the season!
Only possible bright spark is that I thought they were playing better without him, creatively, going forward so losing him again when he'd been out for so long, shouldn't make too much difference.Still happy he won't be playing against us though

You're right, he has.
McCoist?
