How does Caol Ila 18 compare to Lagavulin?
-
• #4003
Less raw peat flavour, smoother, feels less alcoholic despite the same abv.

Today at our local whisky store I was told that Lagavulin 16 is going to be unavailable for next two years. They ran out of 16 yo barrels.

Christ, had better start rationing what I've got left.

I noticed it was £60 on Amazon, then £65, £66 and currently £70

I paid £49 for my last bottle in Waitrose over summer and £65 the other day on amazon
-

camelcamelcamel shows it going from £49 to £70 in a few short steps.
I'll stick with Bowmore for the timebeing

Yeah, I figured if it was actually going to be unavailable for two years then £65 was worth paying.

My price hasn't moved yet, but it was high to begin with.

Would go the caol ila again. Have one each of the regular retail bottles. Both great in their own way but prefer the caol ila if I have the choice when I get home.
Got and octo 12.1 last week, not as happy with it as I thought, fairly peaty, but that's about it, otherwise its pretty forgettable. Last few octovs I had were in the 8.x and 9.x range, never sure what that means, but would like another of the old type!

Lagavulin 16 back down to £49 in Waitrose.

Cheers, ordered.
Also, wish it was £9!
I'd have bought 2...edit: just noticed it is the "online ordering from the shop" bit, not an online shop, so fully expect my order to be cancelled as I haven't seen Lagavulin on the shelves locally.

Ha! I did correct it, to avoid the excitement...

Co-op have Talisker for £25 at the moment. I thought it'd be rude not to at that price

I'm not that keen on the Talisker expressions

Each to their own just putting it out there. No pressure.

Just cracked open a bottle of this, very easy to drink...

I can’t believe the depth of the discounts that are posted around here. In my province we ‘might’ get up to the equivalent of 5£ off a premium bottle, less for a daily drinker.

I liked the look of this and found it better with more ice.

Where did you get that? I'd like to try it.

On a bottle of Ledaig 10.
Very spicy and spikey peat. A really long finish. Very pleasing at 46%, I should add water to taste it better but I like the spice. Not quite a second bottle buy for me though.
Nikka from the barrel is still my fave. I just don't like a 500 ml bottle. It's nearly half gone in 2 sessions.
Yes the second I got the other day after @J0nathan freaked me out about price rises!
