  • Bowmore 12 was one of the first whiskies that made me think I need a leather chair and a decent view for this.

  • Gonna be a good night.

  • Where's the paper seal?

  • Nope, previously mentioned Caol Ila 12.

@EB - Never tried it before, not gonna risk a bad bottle on my friends now am I?

It was a good night, 3 + 1 a little later gathered round a fire sharing good eats and good tipple.

  • Ah no sorry I thought it was Lagavulin also

  • Ordered a bottle of Glenlivet 15, should be with me for a solo Tier 2 sampling over the weekend.
Not tried the 15, but have previously enjoyed some of their other offerings .
£35 for the bottle, seemed a good price

  • it was some Ama$on prime promotional thing here for a couple of days, a good £20 cheaper than anywhere else, so took a punt.

  • Tesco Clubcard price drops has stacks of discounts on bottles, up to £15 off some Jura thing but lots of £5-10 off others.

  • Oh to be in England...

  • My local Tesco had Bowmore 12 for £25 instead of £40, sadly none in stock

  • Stocking up for the apocalypse.
Put a Drop Store order in for American Eagle 12yo bourbon for £25, and a Crabbies 8yo single malt for £25 (comes with a glass and a bottle of ginger wine for £4 less than the whisky alone)

Payday tomorrow and a trip to Tesco to see what Scotch they have in stock, hoping the Bowmore is in to fill the Islay gap in my booze cupboard.

  • I love that Bowmore 12, one I've shared quite a few times with my Grandpa. My mum swears it tastes of TCP so clearly isn't for everyone. Ill be off down Tescos tomorrow to get a bottle for the cupboard.

  • hey, just wondered if you managed to get a bottle of the first ardnamurchan whisky just released as you have a share in a cask there? I was trying to get hold of a bottle but it seems to be sold out everywhere...

  • Also interested...

  • Here's to lockdown 2.0, hope you've all got the essentials?

  • Ooh nice. Peat-wise how does it compare to the port Charlotte make?

Love what I’ve tried from bruichladdich.

  • Very different beast to Port Charlotte, it's cask strength. First arrival completely neat is probably one of the most smokey whisky's I've ever had, even more so than all of the octomore's I've tried. The only way to describe it is like a smoke bomb exploding in your mouth. Half a teaspoon of water mellows it out and brings out a lot of spice, and the more water you add the it becomes sweeter and a lot of fruit flavour come out.

Really excellent, popped some inert gas in it so I can share it with friends (one day if we're ever allowed out again) as anyone who likes peat is going to love it.

  • Any single malt is worth a punt at that price, I find that red wine matured malts are a bit hit and miss as they don't have the sweetness of a sherry cask and can just end up just adding a lot of tannins to the malt. Younger malts seem work better with red wine, I picked a bottle of Bunnahabhain Eirigh Na Greine à while back and it a was nice easy drinking dram.

  • I went back today but it had all gone. Rrp was 32 reduced to 22 so defo worth a punt on reflection.

  • Morrisons has a good few discounts. Got Laphroig Select for my partner as she likes peaty ones, £23.

Also Cardhu Gold, Old Pulteney, Bulleit Bourbon discounted.

Almost threw in a Crabbies Yardhead, £16 for lockdown pain relief. Anyone had that?

  • Swung by my local waitrose yesterday, as they normally have good deals on around xmas. Bunnahabhain 12, cotswolds, and highland park 12 all had a tenner off per bottle if anybody is a fan of them.

  • Bunnahabhain 12

    fuck yeah
