Yeah
Age of Youngest Spirit
http://www.ism.co.at/analyses/Food/Whisky_Industry.htm
With NAS (no age statement) whiskies you still want to know what's in it in age terms, so it's not filled with young swill.

Just had a call from Cask 88, they seem to be more about the investment side of barrel ownership, buy a barrel at new, they store it, and in 5-20 years flog it to some other mug who doesn't want to wait for their whisky.
Reckon 13% year on year increase in value, if you got £5000 to spend, then he recommended a 5yo perhaps as the increase will be greater, and easier to sell in the mid term.Has a 7yo Ben Nevis for £4200, and they seem to move fast.
Will keep in touch with him for future updates (As i may invest me impending inheritance on scotch)
Each barrel comes with 3 years storage and insurance, after that it is £65/y for storage in insurance.
Currently they are in the midst of getting their own Cask88 warehouse bonded to store all clients whiskys, rather than the current "stored at the distillery" model.(Barrel = cask in this conversation)
(edit: once the price list comes in i will share)

Think the Lingdarroch in the spreadsheet is Bladnoch new make. The guy who runs whiskybroker is the son of the old owner of bladnoch, so perhaps they're allowed to sell it under a different name, or its made to the same times and cuts as when they used to run the distillery.

Anything with an age statement has to display the youngest age by default. See Solera vats.

Yeah, I clarified it in the next post as it being relevant for NAS bottles.

I know Solera but what is the go with their age statements? One of my favourite rums is 23yo solera RZ but presumably there's like homeopathic amounts of the older stuff left?

it seems a lot of rum has numbers but not necessarily relating to years.
Zaya have a 12 sticker, but no mention of years.
its actual 12 rums blended. -

Had a whisky tasting Zoom call last week tasting this very same whisky. Very, very nice.
Carlton Kirby and Brian Smith were on the call too

When you enventually need a new bottle try the 12 year, it's even better and only slightly more expensive.

meant to buy that but I was on a short breaK In the IOW (hence the background) and supply was limited

There's worse things to be stuck drinking. I've been going through a bottle of Jura Journey for months now. It's 'fine', but mostly tastes like a half decent whisky that's been watered down 50/50.

I just realised my last decanter bottle was the Bunnahabhain 12. £42 it was. I guess it was probably based on suggestions from you lot.

I'm having an "average" whisky experience with a Dalmore 12.
It's ok, but I rarely reach for a 2nd glass. -
• #3518
Waitrose has it on the shelf. Every so often discounted to ~£30, especially around Xmas so worth keeping an eye out
-
• #3519
I don't often go shopping and even less so to Waitrose, even though ours has a very good booze section. Worth remembering though (haha "remembering", in a whisky thread, sure...)

that plate & bowl... not autumn leaves but of same era/kudos?

Got a Bun'n 12 unopened in the cupboard since last year, should give it a try sometime really.

probably, it's a mate's holiday home he bought last year off an old biddy in her 90's.
She went into a nursing home and he inherited all the furniture, fixtures and fittings so the whole place is full to the brim of chintzy shite circa 1980 styling.
Note also the green velvet curtains and petrol station glasses.

Just picked up Caol Ila 12, haven't formed an opinion yet.
Anyone had a dram of this? -

Blue sky out the window, who gives a fuck about the decor. PARTY TIME!

Bowmore No 1 is £20 on Amazon, and the 12 is £25.
Not had either but price seems reasonable?
"Age of Youngest Spirit"
It's all well and good having a "50yo" bottle claim but if most of it is 3yo stuff you wouldn't be best pleased.
