    hello what's this???

  • exactly. @CP - members only but they're offering it to us.. thought you'd be into it!

  • zing!

  • I have a bottle of Glenfarclas 105 that I am struggling to get through. It was a leaving present from my boss in July and there is still half a bottle left, very rare for me :)
I find that the 60% delivers too much of a punch on it's own and it's quite hard to appreciate without mixing with water which I am loathe to do.

it's perfectly ok to mix whisky with water, it can bring out a lot of hidden flavours. don't drown it though, you can always add more

  • Yeah but you need to have some decent water. I find if you use tap water it just ruins it and bottled mineral water is never something I have in the house when I fancy a dram. I should be more organised really

  • Jura Superstition is only £20 for a big bottle in sainsburys at the mo....

  • ^^do you not filter your water at home? tap water tastes grim these days. Get a little britta filter jug thing and then you don't waste the whisky.

  • London water is grim. Birmingham water comes from the beautiful welsh valleys and is sweet as nectar.

Unfortunately, that would take a level of organisation that is beyond me :(

Really smoky, a big, cuddly, sweet flavour. Nice pudding whisky.

  • ^want

  • £19.87 at tesco atm

    smoooooth

  • What was that drink your folks bought for your wedding vedster?

  • Home brew Sljivovica (plum brandy) it comes in a plastic water bottle all the way from the Balkans.

There was also some Pear brandy from Solvenia. I have a bottle at home BTW.

  • Waitrose (check me all posh) have a lot of special offers on single malts at the moment. If it's the same as last year, you've got until mid Dec to fill your boots.

  • Have just come back from Edinburgh, I'm all whisk(e)y'd out!

Whisky tour in city centre is actully OK, I got to try a few nice drams.

  • I want to get some scapa, but I'm a little hesitant about the price (£40ish) it's really nice but that much for a standard bottle seems loads. There isn't much of it and that's why the price is high, I'm sure dragging my feet till it's all gone and then really wanting some will be how it pans out.

  • The 16yo?

  • Would have to be - http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/twesearchresult.aspx?q=scapa

I'm off after lunch to get myself a stonkingly old and expensive single malt. Thinking Glenrothes or Knockando but could be persuaded otherwise.

  • I tried a really expensive Japanese one the other week at The Hemingway on Victoria Park Road and oh my days it was incredible. Sunotory Yamazaki 18yo I think. The guy on the bar, who had amazing knowledge from working in gentlemen's clubs, said it was the best he'd ever had. He said I had to try it and poured me a measure free of charge. I took a sip and then we continued to chat, at which point I accidentally knocked the glass and the remainder of its contents all over the bar. Fuck, embarrassing.

  • This month, Landslide be mostly recommending:

One that I've only ever picked up in Scotland, but always enjoy: Deanston.
Made in Doune (home of Castle Anthrax, Monty Python fans).
They've recently changed their bottling from 40% ABV to 46%, and it's now non-chill filtered.

Lots of flavours, one of those drams that changes from the first sip, through a nice swirl round your mouth, and into the finish. Not specially peaty or phenolic, a really good all-rounder.
